Yep.. its called "using an operating system designed to see and use more than 4gb"

Actually I'd be happy with one that would use exactly 4gb, never mind *more*

Which isn't possible because of the way the hardware works, did you even read the thread?

If I had the money I'd fund R&D of a 33-bit OS, just for him

No need, just get MS to release a version of 32-bit XP or Vista that will touch memory addresses >4G. The way the hardware addressing works requires you to be able to use addresses >4G in order to address a total of 4G physical memory, XP and Vista already support PAE so they're 99% of the way there. MS just limited them to address <=4G for 'compatibility' with crappy drivers.

I'm sure some of the problem is the fact that Microsoft really didn't envision home, desktop users to consider using more than 4GB of system memory in their home systems.

Fast forward 5-10 years; memory prices have plummeted as well as technology products as a whole.

Part? It's like 90% of the problem. MS could easily release a version of 32-bit XP or Vista that allows access to >4G of memory.

Don't bother, apparently no one actually reads these threads.

My XP system only shows 1GB of RAM

(Because it's all I've got )

I think that is mainly due to a wallet limitation.
