Does Win2000 Pro need to be re-installed every 3 months like Win98 does?

I frequently re-install Win98SE...over the course of a few months my whole system just seems to get kind of slow and sluggish...and just doing a general format and re-install seems to fix me up....

Does this happen in Win2000 as well? Or can I just install it and leave it for a long time?

A lot of it has to do with what kind of software you install and how it modifies your system files. But compared to Win98, Win2k is ultra stable and has a much better memory manager. I haven't been able to break it yet after running it 9 months.

Even with Win98 if you use a good utilities program, like Norton`s Systemworks or OnTrack SystemSuite, you should be able to keep your Win98 or any other OS in tip top condition, without reinstalling the OS.

I have been on this install of Win2k Pro for 9 months, only problems that I have had was cause I used utilites like Norton and made registry errors, had to find the errors to correct but now no more utilites to do my thinking, just use a quality Defrag prog like Diskeeper and this OS ROCKS!

I have not seen a reason to reformat my computer since I installed win2k the frst time.

(I did onceafter a complete hard crash)
but I added a raid card afterwards so its all good.

But its stable and not lagging like other systems I know.

If you constantly install and uninstall applications specially the ones that use the registry extensively then win2k is no different than win9x. Just more stable.

why not use Norton Ghost to create a perfect image of your hard drive so that you can simply restore win98 with the basic stuff. I do it weekly.

najar: Not really...I am forever re-installing Win98SE then trying to update my apps so it's the same as it was before but faster....

I have a certain set of apps I use...

S0me1X: That's not a bad idea, and I intend to try it...I have Drive Image Pro, but I also want to go to Win2000 for other reasons.

Thanks for the input guys.
