Does Windows XP limit connections?

Anyone know if Windows XP limits connections? Everytime I have a few downloads going, AOL AIM disconnects and reconnects on me.

If its too little connections, anyone know how to fix/change this?

Are you running Service Pack 2 on that XP box? Then this might be the cause of your troubles:

There's a patch in the download section of www.LvlLord.de that will let you set it. I believe the default is 10.

Yep, concurrent connection-limit is set to 10 by XP SP2. The patch on lvllord modifies the tcpip.sys file to allow 50 concurrent connections.

Actually if you read the title of thread here genius, I think he means the above listed "bearshare and AIM" which are the two programs he is referring to, not windows. I think anyone would have to agree that yes......these two programs do suck-ass.

The connnection limit is for the number of concurrent connections currently being established*; once a connection is established it no longer counts against this 10 connection pool. wakawaka's problem sounds a lot more like he's reaching his bandwidth cap and things are starting to time out.

* This was put in so that should there be another worm outbreak, the worm's propogation will be slowed by being capped all the time when it tries infecting IP addresses not in use

It continues to happen, so yup, this is the most logical reason I guess. I need more than 4 mpbs! Damn comcast, lol
