Does your work let you listen to music?

I'm taking a little work break, adding songs to my pandora play list and I was thinking how great/lucky I am to be at a place that lets us listen (and stream) music while working.

Assuming you work in a position where it's feasible (ex: you don't work retail) to listen while you work , does your boss/employer let you?

Not sure what the official policy is (if there even is one). I don't think they really care. I see people spend half their day listing to their MP3 players in their cubes.

I have found that salary-office jobs are pretty lenient. As long as your work is done people leave you alone.

Yup, we listen to streaming radio all day. I think we'd go insane with nothing but computer fans making any noise.

Here it's "Not supposed to stream" and a handful of ports are blocked but you realistically can. I usually just listen to local files.

Can't stream because we don't have a fat enough pipe. We can listen locally or on the radio though provided it doesn't disturb anyone else.

I was told that I could listen, to the radio at a reasonable volume from 9 to 11... well, I... I told Bill that if, if Sandra's going to listen to her headphones while she's, while she's filing then I should be able to listen to the radio while I'm collating so I don't see why I should have to turn it down because I enjoy, listening, at a reasonable volume, from 9 to 11...

My work doesn't mind if we listen to music. We're a small company with limited bandwidth, so I try to avoid streaming and instead bring in my iPod or listen to local music.

Yup. We got dozen or so people all using iTunes, so we share libraries, too. I probably have about 40-50GB of music as my dispose

Yep, I am right now. Either with ipod or CD, as long as it is not too loud, although the person in the cube next to me has it really blaring a good amount of the time.

Listening to stream. It helps to block out a lot of the conversations or conference calls people are having, since our cube walls aren't the full height ones.

Where I work now I can listen to radio stations via the net as well as CD/MP3 etc... as long as it doesn't disturb anyone.

At my previous employer they blocked all online music (streaming radio etc) but CD/MP3 was ok... or even a real life radio.

New policy a few weeks ago. And I can't make this up.

"We realize morale is at an all time low. So in an effort to improve that we're getting back to what made us so productive. From now on nobody can listen to music or have headphones on. This will foster a more friendly work environment."

WTF!!!! So to improve morale you make a policy that they can't use headphones or listen to music? You actually changed to policy from "it's OK" to "can't do." And that is going to improve morale?

GAH!

We have the option of streaming or bringing in a radio just as long as it doesn't disturb/offend others.
I prefer to use my ipod thru my pc instead.

Yes, but I use my headphones because I'm not an asshat that assumes everyone wants to listen to what I'm listening to.

Yes; listening to earbuds/headphones/etc is generally permitted. We do, though, we make every effort to prevent anyone in our agencies from streaming music or video.
