The neighbor's dog has been driving me crazy for about 3 months now.

It barks/yelps constantly thru the night, morning, and afternoon.
The only time it stops barking is around midday for a few hours while apparently it sleeps.
I do a lot of reading, and recently canceled my tv service so this is driving me crazy.

Has anyone tried a dog bark silencer ?

Like this one or similar

The user reviews seem to be hit or miss. Either 5 stars or 1 star.
Also there are more expensive units $100+

Can anyone recommend one, or experienced them working/not-working before ?

More 1-star ratings than 2, 3, 4 and 5 combined. If that doesn't answer your question nothing said here is going to help you.

If you've got the neighbors phone number give them a call when the dog starts barking in the middle of the night. You're already up and he should share in the joy of his barking dog. I had this going on many years back and that's how I handled it. But, it was before cell phones and way before caller ID was common. I would call, he'd answer and I'd scream into the phone "Shut your fucking dog up!". Only took about three of those calls and the problem was corrected.

Your neighbor may be in violation of a noise ordinance so that's something to check into. A visit from the cops can carry a lot of weight.

My asshole neighbor kept this same dog, a Doberman, locked in a caged in area about 6' square right next to my bedroom window. The dog was outside 24/7 in Michigan. Spring, summer, winter, fall. The dog was never taken for a walk and when he went out to feed it, he usually kicked it across the enclosure. I always figured it was either the dog or the wife that was going to get the kick, but hey, maybe both got it.

The dog froze to death one winter evening. He replaced it with a new Doberman puppy and that's when I called animal cruelty. The puppy was gone within a week.

Why bother to have a dog at that point? Why submit a living creature to that kind of suffering?

*67, FTW! My neighbor left her little barker out in the yard at 4am.

Once.

Our area don't have noise ordinances, and my neighbors don't speak english
They keep the dogs tied up because they attacked the other neighbor's dogs and they are too retarded to put chicken wire up to make the fence taller.

Half the reviewers who rated the one you linked gave it 1 star. That's a lot of people saying NO.

Save your money, consider moving

get a set of train air horns, and blast them every time the dog barks. They shouldn't need English to figure that out ;^)

A dog that barks like that is poorly trained. Usually comes from positive reinforcement of negative behaviour.

My neighbours had a corgie like that. The dad would stick it outside at 6am every god damned morning. Thing would bark non-stop until the kids let it in when they left for school. When I say non-stop, I mean it. The kids would usually pick up the animal like it was a baby to soothe it. So the dog learned that all it had to do was keep barking to get positive attention.

Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do about this. I suppose you could file a noise complaint but I doubt that's going to convince the neighbour to correct the dog. That is unless you live in a condo or rental unit. Then you could take it up with the board or landlord.

I was thinking about one of those cannned air horns they use at sports games.

but then i'd have to literally be sitting outside everyday trying to make the dog shutup.

Nah, that's what a computer's good for. Record the shithead barking, and use that sound as a trigger to set off the horn.

yeah, I thought about building my own ic or interfacing with the computer and writing my own program.

My concern with this is the high frequencies needed to stay out of the audible human range. I'd need special speakers.
Easier to just buy a device already tuned for this application.

Or put your speakers in the window and play it back even louder for three or four days. That should do it.

Had the same problem with my neighbor. Contacted the humane society and after several months they finally gave notice to the jerkwad dog owner. Had to take videos and audios. After being threatened with huge fines the clown finally got rid of said dog. 2 years later numbnuts got another dog. Everytime the dog barked I went and hammered on his doorbell day or night. We had words. Dog is gone. Waiting for the next time because dumbasses are just that.

There are other methods but once they know it's you, well...

Fact is, those kind of dog owners are assholes. Don't waste your time trying to be civil. They just don't care. Make the neighbor hate you more than you hate them.

That always works.

I sometimes wondered myself. The dog was certainly not a pet and it couldn't even serve as a watchdog because it was contained in the yard. I think he had the dog because he had to abuse something and the dog was better than his wife or his son. He was a real piece of work. I have stories...

I'd probably contact the neighbor first. Be nice and polite. He might not realize what is going on. He might work graveyard.

Then the local humane society and police department.

After that it's war. Kinda depends on if you're renting or own though.

Step one would probably be a fog horn.

Step two would be a police spot light into his bedroom. Maybe you can get something bigger like a sky light

Step three would be something like a 300W bass and blasting Britney Spears in his direction.

Step 4 would be things like turning off his water main, ordering pizza, clowns, and singing telegrams to his house, putting his address and phone number in every porn website, and registering his address as a known sex offender.

Step 5 would be calling the Hague and Israeli Embassy and telling them you have the known location of a Nazi war criminal.
