Is this approved by Michael Vick?

I picked up the 4-pack. Have fond memories of playing Crimson Skies at LAN parties years ago. Hope my flight stick still works under Windows 7 (collecting dust in garage).

Played the tutorial, well worth the money. We'll see how the deathmatch is tomorrow.

Played it for about an hour. The controls are a little clunky and some of the power-ups (weapons, defenses, etc.) seem a bit odd, but overall it's a fun game. I would have gladly paid $10 or so for it. For $1.50, it's a no-brainer.

In for one.
I'm an amateur flight simmer.
But the heck, it looks like fun anyway.

Keyboard, game pad or flight stick?

Mine's been downloaded since yesterday, but haven't had a chance to test it out. Gotta find and dust off a controller first.

Keyboard / mouse, which is probably the biggest problem. You use the mouse for weapons (LMB), defense "weapons" (RMB), and maneuvering. They invert the y-axis by default (pulling the mouse toward you climbs, away from you dives), which I promptly turned off - perfect for a joystick, but just not right for a mouse.

The biggest problem is the fact that W = boost (limited, depending on game mode think nitrous in racing games), S = air brake, and A/D = barrel roll right and left. When I have someone behind me firing at me, I find myself hitting A/D trying to turn sharply and doing a barrel roll instead, which screws me up.

Also, you guys need to realize that this is an ARCADE game, definitely nothing like a sim. The controls are very exaggerated compared to a sim, and obviously they are all kinds of power-ups and different weapons. Ever fired a shotgun from an aircraft? Yeah, you can do that here.

I did find one bug so far. Shift is default for a "loop" maneuver (climb sharply, go upside-down, come back down rightside-up). In unlimited boost games, your boost gets stuck off (unusable) until you die and respawn. Then it seems to work fine again.

Overall, if Plants Vs. Zombies gets a 10/10 as far as cheap games go, I'd give this one a 7/10. For $1.50 it's well worth it.

You can try flipping mouse controls. My wife played it a bit yesterday and it helped tremendously. I would be telling her "pull up pull up" but she would still crash into the ground. She said it didn't feel natural to her.

Nope, it really doesn't. I remember using inverted controls for flying copters in BF2, but their response was more realistic than this game, so you didn't have instantaneous changes in pitch. This game is much more arcade-like, so your plane follows your crosshair perfectly. As a result, it feels much more natural for up on the mouse to point your nose up.

Bought the game, and I have to say the controls are taking a lot of getting used to. I'm currently using a joystick, but after extensive time flying simulators the controls just don't respond the way I'd expect them to. Additionally, for whatever reason the controls for a joystick default to non-inverted (so pulling back makes me go down) and even if I change the controls it seems to reset every time I join a new game.

Maybe using a mouse might seem more natural, although I've always used inverted with a mouse as well, even in FPS games.
