Just curious if anyone has done their research and found a good brand of dog food. I'm not quite sold on all this organic/natural/grain-free stuff that's out there, but don't have any issues buying it if it really is better.
My dog is very active, we both go running several miles throughout the week. Not overweight or any medical issues that I'm aware of.
Seriously, consider raw meat. People keep sugesting finding dog food that contains mostly meat...so why not just go and give them what they naturally eat anyway?
Got a 65lb female pit that gets 1.5lbs a day (3/4lb day and night)...at a cost of about .8-1.2$ a pound. You'll have to do a little research to figure out how much you need.
Average about 80% meat, 10% bone, and 5% liver 5% organ. Don't cook any of it.
Whole birds are like 75% bone per weight...thats how we do most of the bone content. Again don't cook it, makes the bones dangerous. Probably a good idea to double check my info (Im sure you wan't the best for your pet).
We usually prep for 1 month or more (freeze things in 1 week groups), makes the weight/percentage calulations easier. They dont need to eat the right ammount of each every day, just needs an average. And feeding them slightly frozen meat (thawed in the fridge overnight) doesn't seem to hurt at all, we started doing this so the mut wouldn't just swallow things whole.
May sound strange at first, but if you think about it thats what wild dogs eat. Its really not that hard, and not expensive either (especially in bulk). Was actually cheaper than what we were feeding her...and shes noticeably healthier (even the poo is easier to clean up).
