Dog Problem

Nothing can hold my dog. I take her for a walk and she slipped her collar. So I tighten it, she slips it again. So I get out the harness for car rides, she slips it as well. This harness goes over ger head, and has two straps that connect around her body. So I tighten up the body straps, no luck. I tighten the the neck portion, and still no luck. Its small enough now that it bunches her skin up around it when its fastened, and she still slips out of it. Does anyone have a solution as to what I can buy and put on her so she doesn't slip out on walks? she is an avid car chaser, and I'm afaid she'll be killed one day. lThisis the one I have now.

Have you tried one of those harnesses? Like, the ones that fit over the dog's legs and back? May not be the most comfy but your dog will NOT slip out of it. Dunno where you can find them, though, try petsmart.com.

I tried the back leg one. Its a harness to stop jumping, but she manages to get her front legs and head out and then she's free.

Get a choke chain, The dog will only pull until it realizes that it can't breath. Worked with my dog.

get a choke chain. It'll get tighter when she tries to pull out of it. Most dogs are smart enough to stop when they can't breathe, mine on the other hand would pull until he nearly passed out.

If you dont want to use a choke chain, some people dont. There is a product called a gentle leader. It works very well. It fits over the dogs snout and back of its head, you hook the leash up under its mouth. There is pressure on the snout and the back of the head. To the dog, the leader of the pack grabs them by the snout to show dominance and mom grabs them by the back of the head to show control. Its very affective for dogs that like to pull when they walk you. This is an instant fix, takes them a few weeks to get used to it. I think it is more effective in this situation. Right here

Time to leash train the dog, my dog when I walk him the leash never gets any tension on it unless I make a directional or stop pull and it's hardly any motion at all.

Borrow a training leash even, doesn't take that long, took my dog about 2 hours of a walk in the park, never needed it again.

Don't do choke chain, their is actually a specail leash just for the training, I'll look for a link for ya.

If he can get out of a four-legged harness, he'll be out of a choke chain in no time flat.

remember that they only tighten when the dog is pulling on its leash. And normal collars will hold a dog as long as it's simply pulling. But this dog is obviously smarter than that.

what about a choke chain and duct tape going around the dog in multiple directions?
and then hook the duct tape up to the chokechain, so if he goes forward he chokes, and he cant go backwards?

<< sorry to say, but choke chain might be a solution >>

Why sorry? A choker is how all dogs should be trained and walked. They don't hurt the dog, but still give you proper control over it, especially if the dog is correctly trained.

I'm fed up with people who can't control their dogs. They walk little muffy or studly Killer (little yappy muffy is usually the worst offender) on a harness or a plain collar with one of those stupid extendable leashes and wonder why I swear at them when the animal lunges at me while I'm out cycling or running. :disgust:

If people can't control their dogs then they shouldn't be allowed to own one.

FWIW our dogs are always obedience trained.

The big problem is, she doesn't pull on the leash. She'll be walking right beside you, see something she wants to get too, and instead of pulling at it, she jumps backwards, ducks her head down between her front legs, and slips right out of the harness. After I tightened it, she did the same thing, just one leg at a time. It all happens in a matter of about 1 sec. , so if you don't catch her at it, shes gone.

The dog is a Basenji btw, and they are good escape artist. She has gotten out of her crate before by unhooking the wall somehow, and climbing out.
