I have a one year old female German Shepard. I spend as much time with it as I can but it still seems lonely. I am going to move out soon and I am concerned that my parent's will not spend enough time with her. Can anyone recommend another dog that would get along well with the one we already have. My dog is very good natured, perhaps even stupid, so I think she could get along with another good natured dog. We also have three other cats, but I suppose they will have to live with a new dog haha. We don't have too much money, so we can't afford a dog more than $200.

Go to the pound and find one around the same age and size. Breed really doesn't matter. A lot of shelters will let you take a dog home to see how it does for a day or two for a trial period. Dousn't sound like your parents want to raise another puppy.

am i the only one that thinks that the OP calling a dog an 'it' is a bad sign???

...I spend as much time with it ...

maybe it's just me

I don't think i have ever called any of my pets an it (hamster, dogs, fish, etc...)

With a new dog you either have to let it grow up with cats, or you have to be sure that it is already used to cats being around. The cats will already know how to live with a dog, but if you get a new one who isn't used to cats yet you get a war.

Thats not always true. My parents have adopted several dogs large dogs that weren't raised around cats but didn't have any problems with them either. Might take them a little while to get use to the cats though.
Go to http://www.petfinder.com/ and look at your local shelters and rescues. A lot of them will list if they know how the dog is with cats.
