A *bump* for a good cause.

BTW- friends of mine adopted a dog from a local shelter under the same conditions. They really lucked out as they found a veterinary student that took the dog to his school's facilities where she was treated free of charge.

If someone has connections to a veterinary school at a university, this is an option they should explore.

The Central Missouri Humane Society has a bunch of dogs available for adoption too, and they're only $35!! This is a far better deal than $800.

For this dog, and all other shelter animals needing a good home, a bump for them. Take some of the money you've saved here and go adopt and take care of a furry one. It'll be one of the best things you could ever do in your life. You won't regret it.

hmmm. springer spaniel... i think i had one of these when i was 8. if so, then this dog loves to run. in fact it has to run to be happy; i think its bloodline is that of a sheepherding pooch. our dog would always bolt out of the house, and it wouldnt have any problem getting past strong adults. this eventually led to its demise :Q:frown:

up here in philly, the SPCA has trainee vets. in fact, my neighbor just had a dog diagnosed with heartworms, and all they wanted was $35 for a year of treatment. the dog immediately became more active after getting one of those pills.

best of luck to you.

CORRECTION

I was misinformed. apparently the SPCA could do nothing for the dog, and a regular vet charged just $35 for a visit where the dog was given 1 pill. They have 1-1/2 pills left of NEMEX (i think) which you are welcome to have.

$800 for some stupid dog! If you seriously spend 800 bucks on some dog you've got to be crazy. Go spend it on some people out there that could actually use it. Its just a dog. This is why we have such a poverty problem in this country, rather than helping your fellow man, you'd rather blow 800 bucks on a dog.

This is not a hot deal!

Can this topic and shoot the dog.

Jerryloser III,

My wife's a Vet and she says she'd gladly donate her services to put you to sleep (she'd cut your balls off first but she doubts you have any)
Get a life loser!

I am touched my JerryLewisIII's giving spirit, though I'm surprised he could pull himself away from helping in the soup kitchen long enough to post.

C'mon people....obviously the members who are against paying that kind of money for a pet haven't ever felt the love a loyal dog can give you. I know my dogs would give their life for me, and I'm sure others can testify to that as well. $800 for the life of your pet can't compare to the many years of love you get from bonding with your pet.

I can vouch for this since I worked at a veterinary hospital for 6 years until I recently moved on. I did kind of feel the same way as some of the people here when I first started at the vet. I saw many many a dog knocking on heavens door. Some were $1,000+ later...a dog with a new life. When I saw those animals reunited with their family and the expression on their faces, I understood why they did it.

Its not about money here folks, I would have given more than $800 to save my last dog, no questions asked.

FYI (trying not to get too technical): Don't confuse Heartworms (immediately life threatening) with intestinal parasites (roundworms or hookworms). Heartworms have to be prevented monthly with oral tablets/chewables but can only be treated with advanced treatment/medication and veterinary care. Intestinal parasites can easily be easily cured with vet prescribed oral medication to take home.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion. This is how this board started and carried on once back in the day, so lets lighten up a bit.

stilinsm, because kids are icky!

Well personally I don't like little kids, but I love dogs! I mean, wouldn't you rather see a cute dog pee on your foot rather than some strange kid?

<family edit> we'll spend our money however we damn well want to! should we help the "less fortunate" just because you say so?? albeit our time with him was shortlived, this dog means somethig to my family.

we have absolutely NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER to help other people!! and you know what? we still do! it's called philanthropy! just because there are other people out there that don't have what it takes to make it in life doesn't mean we can't spend money on something that brings us happiness.

i vote for shooting you, jerk.

a note to others in the board: we really appreciate all your advice that you've given us, and hopefully it works out. i appologize to anyone i may have offended with the above post, however what jerrylewisiii said not only defies all my politial beliefs, however it also hits close to home. i hope you understand.

I'm not talking about politics. I'm libertarian and I feel that no one can make you, nor should make you give money to the needy. But you do have an obligation to give. Its called a moral obligation, its not the law. I never brought policts into this. Do what you want. I've owned serveral dogs in the past. I realize that they are very valuable to their owners, however spending $800 on a dog show the sad misguided state that America is in now. I know several homeless shelters that could feed a 100 HUMANS a good meal on that money. You may argue that some don't deserve it, but its still better spent on people than on a dog. Look around, spending 800 on a dog is sick, self-gratifying, greed. We have and unbelievable amount a strays in this country. I've seen people go out of their way to feed a stray dog(which only perpetuates the problem) and pass over the crazy homeless guy standing on the corner. I hope one day if you ever get yourself into a bad situation someone doesn't pass you over for a dog.

well i hardly post anything on this board but i can't stand poeple would have so much hate to him just because he express how he felt about the issue, i wouldn't go so far to say shot the dog but i can see his point to it , many poeple spent their fortune on their pet yet they wouldn't spear a penny to his/her fellow human being who are in needs, which is the awful truth. to those of you say should kill him because what he has said, you just draged yourself to his level and you are no better than he is.....
