We just rescued a small lab. I have really bonded with the little mut. I take her damn near everywhere. She loves to ride in the car and will sit while i put her harnes on.

IF i stop for gas or to pick up prescriptions (somehting that takes a few minutes) i will either roll down the windows or leave the car running with the AC.

most times she sites in the back (i have a van) and looks out the back window.

It's not real, someone just printed the notice, put dog in car, took photo then took dog out and went back home to post it on the net. If you want to lock your car you have to remove ignition key, which very likely will turn off onboard electronics such as AC and radio.

LOL you have only owned paice of shit cars right? because many new car's today have remote start or key less crap.

Arizona's law says you have to call the police first and they can give the okay to break the window.

Or...y'know, they simply didn't lock the car.

I always carry two keys. In case I leave one in the car by accident.

This law will embolden folks go looking for dogs in cars so they can break windows, feel like heroes and try to shame dog owners. The actually necessity of the "rescue" will be secondary to their crusade.

You can't be serious.

You think this law will suddenly cause someone to wake up one day and say to themselves, "I'm going to go out today and look for some dog owners to shame. I hadn't really given it any thought before now but with this new law...what the hell?"

Really?

Really?

i think he's talking about people who are already into this mindset, not people who never gave it a single thought before...

Leaving the car running is unbelievably stupid. I am surprised there isn't a law against doing that.
Leaving a car running unattended is illegal here. Law was passed a year or two ago. People were warming up or running into the store and having their cars stolen during winter.

"Puffing". Been illegal in Colorado for a while. Stupid law, imo.

I've seen a lady freak out at my local grocery store over a husky left in a car when it was 45F outside because "it could freeze to death".

a friend of mine has 2 huskies. They stay out in the barn most of the time. They had some idiot calling animal control on them. They had seen the dogs outside on a cold day (roughly 40F with snow).

The animal control guy came out checked it out and laughed. the huskies where having a blast and just fine.

Dad had this giant white husky cross he called "sonny" short for son of a bitch
We made him this nice house with a bed, and on the frosty mornings he'd be laying on the ground with frost out on the tips of his fur. He liked the cold. You'd see a few dry circles where he moved around in the morning. He only used the house in the rain.

It's a perfect example of why I'm not entirely convinced about these particular good samaritan laws, freeing "reasonable" people with "good faith" of liability. Outside of ludicrously obvious cases, too many people are terrible judges of dog behavior or comfort. "Oh it's panting, it must be dying! Break the windows!"

Since the measure does require contacting law enforcement or 911 for essentially permission to break the windows, I guess that's better.

Have there been cases where people have had their windows broken and the dog wasn't obviously in distress or something?

Who is going to do that if it's obvious the car is running and the dog seems fine?

Do you really believe that only cars with remote start are good? Or those without are bad? And now please be honest because this was huge mistake on your part.
Or...y'know, they simply didn't lock the car.
That's what I said, the guy who took the photo didn't lock his car, well he didn't have to he was taking a photo afterall.

Prove me wrong bro, most cars for last half a billion years do shut off AC/Fans and radio and onboard displays once you remove your key or remote control. And if you do leave a dog in the parked car, you probably want to go away and DO want to lock your car(meaning taking the keys with yourself).
Never owned a vehicle with remote start?
You don't remote start a car that you want to leave locked because you need to go away. In fact, in europe it's illegal to not lock a car once you have to go away from car and you can't have the engine turned on if you don't want to drive.
No to mention, the car in the picture looks very old. I don't know which one is it exactly but it's definitely nothing of a new car.
you know how i know you're under 16 years old?
I have no idea please tell me, maybe I find something new about myself, that self discovery is so fascinating journey full of surprises!

Remote start on my Volvo allows me to run my vehicle with the car locked. It actually can only be activated when the doors are locked.

Yep but you still shouldn't run the engine like that, I definitely wouldn't leave my car for longer time with engine running anyhow it would be locked or not.

Nobody's worried that the dog might accidentally somehow put the car in drive and run down someone's kid while you're in the store? I say that's too big of a risk to take. Let the dog pant.
