My computer (in my sig) just stopped working and i don't know what the prob is. It had been on for about 8 or so hours prior to it breaking down or whatver, i played some ps2 and went to go grab a cookie and when i came back it was off. So i tried to power it up and it acted like it was going to boot up for a couple of seconds, but went back to being off real quick. Tried powering up again and it did the same thing. Then the next time i tried to power it up nothing at all happened, and i can't get it to show any signs of life now. The power source and cord are ok. I'm guessing it's the power supply (Enermax Noisetaker 420w), so i'll probably try switching that out later. Unless anyone thinks it could be something else. I was gaming earlier and out of nowhere my computer rebooted, which is kind of unusual. What does it sound like the prob is?

If the fans spin for a short amount of time and stop, there's a good chance its the CPU. If the PSU was screwed, it shouldn't even "power on" momentarily.

No fans, or lights or spinning hdd at all? Yes? Disconnect all power connector to hdd and optical drives. You should have a case fan connected to one of the molex power connector. Disconnect the mobo power connector and now using a paper clip, jumper the green wire with any of the black wire on the mobo power connector. Did the PSU came to life? If not then it's FUBAR!

Replaced the PSU and it still won't boot up...it powers up now, but still no boot. So i guess it's something else, any ideas?

Nah, just turned off all of a sudden, out of nowhere.

I've tried replacing and moving just about everything except for the Motherboard, if i had to guess i'd bet it was a motherboard problem.

You're on the right track. But before you jump to conclusion, unmount the mobo and place it on top of a cardboard box and then just remove/disconnect everything except for the video card (low end if you have one), stick of ram (make sure case power connector is left connected) and then power up? Did it POST?

I tried that, and it did not post.

Should i go ahead and call DFI and get them to send me a replacement mobo?

I'm not 100% sure it's the mobo, it could also be the CPU i suppose. The CPU fan spins, which doesn't mean much. How can i tell if the problem is either the mobo or cpu though?

bump again (sorry!)

How can i be sure it's a problem with the motherboard and not the CPU? I've got an RMA form to send into DFI so they can replace my mobo, but i don't want to go through that only to find it was my CPU that wasn't working.
