They aren't parenting if they have that attitude. A child could be admired for rebelling against them. Better to maintain your personal integrity than bend to someone else's will for their money.

This isn't the sixties or seventies were you can get a job part-time and pay your way through college and then with a can do attitude and some hard work along with that college degree you are pretty much guaranteed to succeed and even prosper while maintaining your personal integrity.

That rebelling attitude today will quickly land today's entitled generation into the poorhouse especially if they lack financial skills and discipline and rack up student loans because they believe they will become gazillionaires soon after graduation because of reasons based on their brainwashed entitlement reality.

The sad part about this is the actual entitlement attitude is the result of what you initially described. When bootstraps aren't strong enough to get the job done, why do we settle on calling the generation raised by entitled asshole, entitled. They are taught by their bootstrapping parents that bootstraps work, and living on loans isn't a bad thing. Well, reap what you sow.

I didn't study "financial skills." I didn't need anybody or thing to tell me that debt is worse than being destitute. It's destitute with a 50lb rock tied to your shoulders. I never figured a college degree guaranteed me a good living or a living at all, but I eventually got one anyway. I dropped out 5 times on the way to post-grad status.

In any case, I never figured it was in my best self interest to subjugate myself to anything and I haven't changed my mind.
