Wrong. I'm not saying In n Out isn't a little better than the $1 McDonald's burger.

Did I claim that you said that? Try reading more carefully next time.

You wrote that In-n-Out's burger is "not good." Saying that is just stupid.

People will take quality food over inexpensive food, and let's face it, McDonald's has never really been about quality.

I'll take Wendy's Dollar Menu or McDonald's any day.

And oh yeah, In-N-Out.

Not good and most overrated burger.

In-n-Out is decent. It's overrated for sure, but I'd eat there again. The best fast-food burger I've had is from Hardees. I worked at McDonald's for years, so I don't like to eat there anymore. It's not that I know some terrible secret, I'm just burned out.

As far as fast-food burgers go, I'd rank them like this:

Hardees > In-N-Out > Burger King > Krystal > McDonald's >> Wendy's

if mcdonalds sold real food they might make more money. it took them decades to get rid of the clown themed restaurants, now they just need to update the menu with human food and they will flourish once again. people are getting smarter by the minute about what they eat, and mcdonalds is the last thing people want these days.

Not easy to get on my ignore list in an off-topic thread, but.

I might go with 'decent'. About every six months I get one, just had one this week. Bleh.

We agree on the main thing, for a burger that's 'decent', it's overrated as 'oh my gosh I loveeeeeeee In n Out it's amazing' a lot.

Since Hardees and Carl's Jr. are about the same, ya, we agree they're better.

You rank In n Out higher than I do. Haven't had Krystal so can't rank them. I rank Wendy's higher than you - I put Sonic in that bad spot.

Then there are the 'casual restaurant' burgers that are better than any of these pretty much, Chili's and Red Robin type burgers.

Wendy's burgers just have this weird oily taste to them. I don't know how to describe it. Their chicken sandwiches are pretty good though. This thread makes me want to go to Hardees, but it's about 15 minutes each way.

A great fast food place is Blakes Lotaburger here in New Mexico. If you are ever in the state, stop at one and get a green chili bacon cheese burger.

Yay - more horrible reporting! What a shitty title for an article. We can't possabily know if it failed (overall) yet. It's only known if it failed overall if profit\sales was down more than competitors. It's entirely possible it helped McDonalds to retain more profit\sales than if it were not offered. Another - better - article had this to say:

Picking up market share means that you stole people away from your competitors - which is a possible win for the dollar menu. Given that the market for Fast food isn't really growing market share is often viewed as a very important health indicator so a gain there is a definite plus. That said profits being down could be due to decreased fast food spending by the public or the dollar menu pulling customers away from higher margin products.

April 26th will shed more light on this when Burger King releases their financials.

A likely professional marketing image of a burger that costs more than $1 compared to a regular photo of a $1 burger is hardly a fair comparison

Have you seen an In N Out burger, it does look like that.

Name a single restaurant in the history of the planet that sold "real food" and made more money than McDonalds.

um... a single mcdonalds grosses $1800 a day on average. I worked at a pizza shop that made more then that on weekends...

Mcdonalds and other fastfood places often have cold and stale food.

Get rid of that stupid steam drawer they keep precooked meat in. The micro sliver of meat they give you shouldn't take much time to cook. If Subways can cook/toast my bread in seconds, they can do the same for the crap meat. Change the oil more often because I'm sick of the bitter and nasty burnt colored fries that I'm getting lately. Telling them to cook it fresh doesn't fix a thing.

According to this it looks like the average McDonald's grosses almost $4900/day

Link

look at their expenses though! 150k a year net per store. I would say a lot of restaurants out there pull that in.

my argument though was that if mcd's sold real food they would make more money, and I can see why that doesn't make sense. their entire business model is based on pushing as much product as they can for the lowest margins possible in order to stay competitive.

they really have nothing to do with food... its a chemical lab made to consistently draw in money at the cost of human health.

1) Taking the busiest day and comparing it to a weeklong average is not apples to apples.
2) Taking a single restaurant and comparing it to a corporate average is not apples to apples.
3) Top 2 pizza chains combined don't gross what McDonalds does in a year.
4) You fail as badly as McD's dollar menu.

A powerfully logical argument. May I add to it?

It is a well known fact that "most" fast food is unhealthy ... and even worse if you eat it regularly. The US as well as many "developed" countries have an epidemic of obesity (including China).

What does it say about a people or society the KNOWS that the crap they are eating is bad for them ... yet they eat it anyway? We have to go no far than these forums ... try to have a logical argument with someone who eats/enjoys "fast food" regularly ... you can't.

People want what they want regardless of how poisonous it is. The irony is that they people want the rest of us to take care of them when they fall into ill health. Such is the feeling of entitlement ....

I think the reason why McDonald's Dollar Menu is failing to boost sales now is same reason Walmart seems to be saying it's core customer is stressed, stretched, and has very limited extra disposable income.

Economic recovery has been very bi-furcated, and spike in gasoline prices a month ago, plus expiration of payroll tax holiday, have made many consumers very cautious with discretionary dollars they have.

Costco shopper, or even more likely very upbrand luxury item sellers or auto maker like BMW are probably seeing record sales like it's 1999 all over again.
