Domain...Add-on Domain...Subdomain...?

I am building a site for my local ultimate club, and I am shopping web hostings. I want to get one account that I can use for this site as well as my own personal site.
I see some web hosters say you can have multiple domains, and some with add-on domains, and subdomains.
How does this all work exactly? I want to have 2 distinct websites operating off of the same account somewhere. What do I need to look for (domain-wise)?

So, basically...the only difference is in the naming? All three of those share the same hosting account?

What's the advantage of using the subdomain...why not just make a page within the original site?

well, you could set it up so that it points to a different place, for example forums.anandtech.com. You can also have them with different login accounts on the server (for example edge has its own login on the i-hacked server)

Thanks for the info, but I guess I am asking the wrong questions:

I want to have two websites hosted on one account. Should I look for web hosting that supports multiple domains, or is add-on domains enough (or is this the same thing)?
