Domain name question

How do I associate my domain name with my host's server?

I added dns.site5.com and dns2.site5.com under Domain Server setup. Shouldn't there be more? I mean, how does it know which address to go to if I haven't set that anywhere in my domain name setup or on the server itself?

Isn't that set up when your host gives you those DNS server addresses? Meaning when you told the web host that you needed to associate your domain name with their host, they gave you the addresses of the DNS servers that are set up to point to the exact address of your box.

Your host has a DNS zone file for your domain on their name servers. The zone file designates what web server to direct traffic to. The web server also has a config for your domain.

So yeah, all you need to do is point your domain to the hosts name servers, their configuration will take care of the rest.

All your domain needs is ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com - it really is that easy! As to "how it knows" - that's all set up by the host.
