Domain Name registration

I need to register a .com address but I dont know anything about the whole process. Can someone explain the steps to me? I have my page at www.websamba.com/allegro, when I register, can I get the URL to point to that address?

yea, domain and hosting are two seperate things, some companys offer them both with special prices, sometimes these deals are good, have the domain reg at like .99 cents but hosting is what adds up. i got my domain from http://www.15dollardomains.com/, yup you guessed it, 15 bucks a year, and i registered from http://www.aplushosting.com. i had other links to deals but i cant find them... if you want url forwarding thats sometimes extra or included, check the plans

Use Register.com. They charge $35 a year but, unlike all these other fly-by-nighters, they'll still be around next year.

Isn't InterNIC the organization that register domain names? I thought you pay them for domain names. Also don't other "domain registering" companies pay InterNIC in the end anyway?

Russ, Reigtser.com sucks. They overcharge, and their customer service is suck. Any registar operating under OpenSRS is a valid registar, and even if it closes, you can still access OpenSRS's control panel to update your domain info. So it's not like you loose you domain if the registar goes out of business. I just registered a domain a few days ago with
http://000domains.com for $13 a year. My domain was registered quickly without any problems occuring.
