domain transfers to GoDaddy process questions

My friend has 8 .com domain names with web.com that's about to expire. He wants to change to a different registrar because web.com now charge 19.95 one year, he said they tripled the price in one year.

I have no experience with domain transfers. I looked at GoDaddy. Is the service I'm looking for "transfer domains"? It looks like the price is:

.COM Domain Name Transfer - 1 Year* - $6.99

If so this looks like a good option. Are there any problems with GoDaddy I should know about?

And I've read you need an "Authorization Code" for domain transfers?

And how long does this process usually take, assuming I complete all the required steps asap? His domains will expire on 12/28/2007.

Look at Namecheap instead of Godaddy. I just transfered a domain from Godaddy to Namecheap a week ago. I don't know how long it takes because my transfer is still in progress.

You'll need to unlock the domains at web.com, then get auth codes for them. Make sure the email addresses listed in whois are correct. Namecheap will ask you for the auth code, and if the code is correct, you will receive an email from Namecheap (at the email address listed in whois) asking you click on a link and verify the transfer, and another email from web.com confirming the same thing.

When I transfered domains from RegisterFly to GoDaddy (yeah, that was a fun experience) it was about a week start to finish. They have a PDF that illustrates the process.

Make sure that the email address currently set as the administrative email address is valid before you start.
