As much as the Trumpists are playing victim again, this isn't a left or right issue. It's a don't embarrass your very public employer with you public antics, issue.

Carano was given much more leeway than James Gunn was, after a RWNJ found his nearly 10 year old tasteless jokes.

Gunn profusely apologized and explained how he was early on starting out, trying (and failing) to do edgy humor. This was obviously years in his past, and would never happen again, and he had sincerely apologized.

Disney still fired him.

Carano has been at this non stop, and she recently had been ramping it up.

Given the instant announcement of her collaboration with Ben Shapiro and the fact that she had been ramping up her RWNJ posts, I suspect, she was trying to draw the public rebuke that she got, so she could play victim and direct attention to her Ben Shapiro project. It worked.

Great for her, that she found her niche in the fine company of Ted Nugent and Kevin Sorbo where she can act like an ass and receive praise for it...

On balance, I tend to agree with Cheadle. Some of what is being described as "cancel culture" is just people facing the reasonable consequences of what they choose to say in public, and people are just reacting in a way that is foreseeable. In some cases, however, I think there can be an overreaction to certain comments, interpreting them in ways not intended and over-punishing the speaker.

The larger point here is the right's own version of "cancel culture." It's a very different version, and much scarier. With the use of the term RINO for any republican breaking party lines on any issue, no matter how small, there has been a complete lack of tolerance for even mildest forms of dissent in their ranks.

But now it's even scarier. Just consider what happens to any conservative or republican who breathes an unkind word about God Emperor Trump. They voted to censure Cindy McCain, a private citizen who has never held office, for saying bad things about a man who had repeatedly defamed her husband. This is the main reason why republicans won't cross Trump and won't convict him for inciting an insurrection. It's because of conservative cancel culture. The irony is obviously lost on them.

I think there are people on the left who could justly criticize "cancel culture" on the left, but I have no interest in hearing this from the right because they are just being hypocrites.

I completely agree with this. Also I believe it was Fox News and Bill O that really started the whole boycott thing. I remember hearing a lot in the early 00s "if you don't like it, vote with your wallet."

They just don't like that democrats finally figured out how to do it.

I also don't like the systematic take down if someone over one comment or something from a long time ago, like what's going on with Chris Harrison. Oh what had happened to completely nobodies that tell one off color joke. But, yeah, if you are a Nazi, fuck you.

I largely agree with Cheadle here. It just appears to be more projection from the right. I really have no interest in entertaining "cancel culture" as a serious concern from a group of people that have been "canceling" others for thousands of years.

The fact is, conservatives won't stop attacking others they don't agree with, and just dont want consequences for their own unpopular opinions / bad behavior.

Edit: Take the Carano for example, my employer would not be excited if I were posting stuff like that on social media and technically have the right to terminate my employment for anything.

In her case, it wasn't just one incident, it was ongoing problems. Im sure disney spoke the her and she just dgaf, so not much concern over it.

Can you believe there were people here that thought he was having some epiphany and had finally started to change?
