This is going to do as much for race relations for this country as OJ getting acquitted.

If I were Imus, I wouldn't even go meet with those girls now. I'd wash my hands of it and say "peace out."

I'm trying to listen to Jesse Jackson right now on Countdown with Keith Olbermann. I can't understand half of what's coming out of his mouth.

Its probably been said before but here it is just in case. He should not have called an entire women basketball teem a bunch of whore on national media.

Make sence to me that he got fired. Good ridance.

Can I say that a men's basketball team looks like a bunch of thugs with tats all over their arms?

Or are women a protected class?

What people should be worried about is the freedom of speech. It is being eroded and people like Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson are setting back race relations. Those guys, as men of religion, should be the first ones to forgive people and turn the other cheek but they seem to be the last. The only time the seem to turn the other cheek is for some whitey to kiss it.

We don't need Canucks or any one else not IN the U.S. commenting on U.S. Free Speech issues.

F'ing lame. Imus may be old and crotchety, but he does a lot of good charity work for children AND the troops. I genuinely believe he's a good person who just made a joke that got blown completely out of proportion.

I refuse to believe there are people so thin-skinned and insecure that they have actually been hurt by one stupid joke. MSNBC also needs to grow a spine.

You can say whatever you want. If that causes you to loose your job, that's your problem.

Do you refuse to believe because you haven't seen the evidence of what pantywaists people in this country have become? Or because you think they're all just saying it to get what they want and to cause a stir?

If Imus had called a majority-white team a bunch of air-headed good-time girls, would he have gotten in trouble? I think not.

Nappy-headed. A description of black people's hair. Maybe derogatory, but not a racist comment. It's a term that describes kinky hair; it gets used as an insult to imply the person doesn't groom properly (and generally includes because they're so poor they live in slums or the ghetto which explains their grooming). When I was in school, black kids walked around insulting each other using that term constantly.

'Ho's. (There needs to be some standardized way of spelling that word.) An insulting word but I don't find it particularly sexist. Just because something refers to or is based on the sex of the person doesn't make it sexist.

I wish just one famous white guy would use the phrase "Suck it" the next time Sharpton or Jackson demands an apology.

I think none of the women who are on the Rutgers Women's Basketball team would have ever even heard the comment (I doubt they listen to Imus) if not for all of these "protectors" who told them they should be outraged.

I think people like Rev Al and Jesse obviously have nothing useful to do with their time so they are creating the media frenzy about this so they can make sure they stay established as "leaders".

I do think many of this country's citizens have become spineless, overly-sensitive PC wimps, but in this case I believe all of the "outrage" and the "scarring" is completely manufactured by people who don't have anything useful or meaningful to do with their time.

Ironic how the Duke case ended during all this...I saw a segment on CNN about how the Media went ape ****** on the Duke case and all I could think about is, don't they even realize they are doing the SAME THING RIGHT NOW!!

It would also be ironic is CBS dropped him at the end of the week since Thursday and Friday he is doing his fund raiser for his charities.
I never thought I'd be agreeing to anything coming out of Michael Medved's mouth, but for those who saw him on Anderson Cooper who supposedly takes it in the pooper, I was agreeing with every word coming out of his mouth. For those who didn't see it you can read the transcript that will be at CNN.com later.

Exactly, some attention ho was listening and decided they needed some more attention. The real person(s) who should be blamed for 'tainting' their hokey championship whatever should be those attention whores who got the mob mentality going.
Yes, Imus said something stupid but it didn't hurt anybody (unlike the people who have been killed because of anger Sharpton and Jackson have stirred) and not many even heard it till these attention ho's decided they weren't getting enough and saw some red meat.

personally i think thats why this is so hot. they were wrong on the duke case. everyone jumped on that to call the kids racist etc. now they have to back off that.

so now they have a fresh target to make up for it. so they are running with it.

It really is so sickening watching what is going on in the media.

The only reason sponsors dropped is because behind the scenes Sharpton and Jackson are threatening them. They have admitted it on FOX and CNN themselves. They are the real reason this is a national story. This is so fvcked up it's almost unbelievable...

Uhm. What's that got to do with anything?
Nothing, just funny and a reference to something uttered on Imus. Whats wrong with you people...Something else ironic, I searched google to see where I originally heard 'Anderson Cooper takes it in the Pooper' and ran across THIS, I remember seeing that on mSNBC now, they were making fun as they do about the Out magazine article. More irony. So I guess it is related, so back off.

My thoughts exactly.

This whole situation just re-empathizes this country's virgin ears when it comes to any kind of racially-sensitive criticism, not to mention further exposes the glaring double standard that exists when it comes to black/white stereotyping.

The words he said are very commonplace in popular music, what's the big deal? Are only black rap artists allowed to call women bitches hoes and n-word? bah I see no reason why it should be filtered here.

I lost respect for Imus back when he and O'Reilly were calling Matt Drudge a crack head. But even still, he's kissing way too much ass over this.

Anybody remember this story? http://www.adversity.net/special/niggardly.htm

It's about the staff member of the Mayor of DC who used the word "niggardly" in a budget meeting and lost his job.
It just goes to show you how careful a white person has to be with his language.

Al Sharpton is a joke and I hope he gets hit by a bus.

The double standards in this country are amazing. I hear black talk shows use "cracker" and "honkey" in jest and nobody cares. God forbid white people offend the blacks who were enslaved ions ago. Have pity on the blacks for their great grandfathers were slaves!! Some people are taking this PC bullshit way too far.

BET- thats acceptable
Black music awards- again, acceptable

If you had a white music awards show- yeah forget about it there would be riots and civil war would ensue.

If everyone is born equal then why treat them differently? I could go on forever.

I actually have more respect for women than you do. You seem to think that they are tools who need defending from the boogiemen people like Reverend Al create, because they can't think for themselves. I know they have a mind of their own and are intelligent enough to discern between a joke in poor taste and a proper racial/gender insult.

Are you even black as your avatar suggests? My guess is that you're one of those white Berkley types who "feels black people's pain" and is compelled to jump in the fray in behalf of them when in fact their outlook probably does not match what the media would have you believe, as people like NFS4 and Dracos have proven in this thread.

That's because NFS4 and Dracos don't go acting all black and sheeet. They act like people, you know, the human race. Very cool people. If they are uncle toms, I'd have uncles like that any day.
