I dunno about you, but I don't find "cracker" to be that hurtfull. Chris Rock can call me a cracker any day. You tryin to tell me that cracker is the same as the n word? yeah okay.

Up until recently black women never had any roles on tv with authority. You never saw a black women in a position of authorty on any show. They were always whores, junkies, or some other lower life citizen. Now slowly that is changing. So we were kind of programmed subconsciously to think that black women aren't really the same as white women. That black women are a step down from white women in social standings. That black women can't achieve postions of authority and/or higher standings in society b/c after all they are black and not to mention nappy headed hoes. Imus just brought that ugly stereotype sharply back into focus.

Try not to forget how and why black people got here in the first place. Dragged in shackles to bale hay and pick cotton as slaves. As much as things have changed, not really that much has changed in a lot of ways and in the ignorant minds of some ppl.

First Sharpton played the Race card. Now the coach is using the S word. What has the world come to. One of the players in the article mentioned that this ruined their entire celebration. Well they can thank Sharpton for that. Because if he never made a huge issue out of this, they wouldn't have even heard anything about it. Instead, Sharpton has done what he has always done. Blow an issue out of proportion, and cause anguish and sense of victimization on African Americans.

My ancestors were brought over in shackles, I was not born with them thanks to the hard work of Dr. King and many others. Sorry but when exactly are we allowed to move on past that. Too many of my people have been using that as an excuse to hold themselves down.

Does racism exist today, you bet it does, has it effected me? it some ways it has in other ways it hasnt effected me at all. Sharpton and Jackson are not helping the situation, they are transforming it into something alot worst.

Nappy is no where close to being the same as the n world.

Food for thought:

We have an hour of bull$hit news conference on ESPN, CNN and every other major news broadcasting station covering this crap, but the soldiers over in Iraq don't get five minutes of air time.

The media is a disgrace.

Can I get an Ahmen? Wait, is that a statement only blacks can say?
Exactly, nobody even knew who the hell the Rutgers team was till these two bafoons chimed in days after it happened.
Al Sharpton Controversies
Jesse Jackson Controversies
Al and Jesse's high horses died a while ago...did anybody tell them?

BTW, CBS/NBC would be crazy to fire IMUS as another company would pick him up. Like it or not he has an audience, millions of them (not as many as others but still a sizable amount). They (the market) will dictate if they think he was over the line.

What is going on in the media is a disgrace. Is there nothing more important going on in the World? What happened to Iran and NK? Darfur? Iraq? Afghanistan? Hello, there are wars going on here people.

"nappy" was coupled with "hoe." nothing is wrong with nappy by itself.

black people have nappy and kinky hair. the issue is more with hoe than nappy.

those students are not hoes, napppy headed or otherwise.

Oh please. The word "ho" is so overused it's lost any sort of meaning whatsoever. Where is Sharpton when the flavor of the month rapper is rapping about bitches and hos on prime time TRL? Oh that's right, black people are allowed call women bitches and whores, because you know, black women could only portray prostitutes on TV until recently

When did The Jeffersons air? 32 years ago?

Clearly you have not seen/heard much of the IMUS show...It is a comedy show, they were riffing. They do it a lot, they pick a subject and try to carry it a good distance, thinking on the fly. He is an equal opportunity offender. The whole segment was comedy and not meant as racist at all.
If you were listening on the radio you never would have known he was talking about some black chicks (I'm using chicks loosely, they are pretty damn ugly as stated earlier).

Anyways, I though his (IMUS) explanation on that race baiter's (Sharpton) show was pretty clear.

i'm still trying to figure out the racist part. insulting and demeaning? yes. calling them 'hos' is in no way appropriate.

The problem isn't so much as to how many listeners will continue to listen to him (I think most of his listeners don't think this is a big deal, and will continue to listen to him). It's sponsors who will pull out from buying ads on the station, based on pressure from people like Jackson and Sharpton. It's anti democratic, because the two hold inproportionate amount of sway by causing racism and PC fear amount corporations, while the majority of people don't believe the same. I think part of the problem is the amount of coverage they receive from the media when they do something like this. But I think it's the same reason why the news like to cover murders and car chases. It catches the eye, and draws viewers because it's a circus and controversial.

Was there a point behind that attack?

i would like to know the answer to that also.

The point is that you shouldn't use words if you don't know what they mean.

Imus = groveling
Rutgers basketball team = not groveling

Unless I was mistaken in believing that the "televised groveling" you were referring to was the press conference that was occurring when you said it.

You're right. I don't listen to that cracker. My point is that white men can't riff like that.
If they do, they gotta pay the piper.
For a comedy segement, that comment wasn't even funny.

Maybe he did not mean to come of as racist, but I can see how his comment could be viewed as racist.

But go ahead and explain what problem you had with the Rutgers team having their press conference. Nevermind Al Sharpton and all that nonsense - don't the Rutgers basketball players have a right to be offended by being called nappy-headed hos? I think you would be offended if someone called you that.

 Great post

How can we ever get past racism, with bitter old men like Jackson and Sharpton that insist on perpetuating the hate! IMO they are no better than the many older white people that harbor hate and resentment and feel superior to other races.

At some point we have to say enough is enough, and let the hate and bitterness fade into the past and not carry it forward into future generations

??? Ignorant Much ???

Here are shows where black women were influential / in position of power:

Star Trek
The Jefferson
Good Times
227
The Cosby Show
Gimme a Break

And those are shows that were hits and that I can think of off the top of my head.

Calling them "hoes" implies that they may be enterprising enough to charge for it...
if they give away for free, that MIGHT make them sluts, but that hasn't been verified...

WAS Imus wrong in this? YES...
Does it deserve all the attention being paid to it? NO.

It WAS slightly racially insensitive, but that's NOT illegal in this country. Stupid perhaps, but NOT illegal.

Yes, I did! What makes you an authority?
I was speaking of all the coverage this has had on television. You couldn't pay me to view any of it. Now drop it.

Of course, everyone has a right to be offended. Personally, I think the word "ho" has been toned down just by its sheer overuse . Call me one. I'll likely laugh and not take you serious anyway.

Was Imus right to call them that? Probably not, but the big deal that is being made out of it is even more sickening than the original statement.
