So yu know for a fact that he's racist because of one thing he said on the radio, which wasn't even racist to begin with?

How come Tim Hardaway didn't get fired from the Miami Heat when he said he hates gay people? Oh yah ... I forgot ... skin color ...
No because I've heard black females employees of WNBC tell of him calling them ****** which he also admitted on Larry King a few year ago.

Tim Hardaway is a dumb ass much like Imus and if I recall I think he and the Heat have parted ways

WNBC, the 70's...wow your really going back.
I also loved how people in the media were bringing up Gwen Ifill which was 20+ years ago also.

That myth was totally busted when the last summer Olympic team was completely owned by a group of European players that played 70-80's style basketball. I would surmise that there are many teams in Europe that would completely dominate over any long series of games against todays USA born NBA players -- mostly because of the selfless style of play and team oriented attitude. Might not be as pretty to watch but it has proven to work.

uh. yeah they got owned. but what does that have to do with what Jlbenedict said? they still are overtaking many "white" dominated sports. most of the top NBA players are black, same with the NFL. the top golfer is black.

Yeah, the very top players are, but Tigers complete domination is for the most part over. Still a fantastic player, and I would bet he will eventually dominate like he did at times but it's not about him being black -- it's about his total dedication to the sport.

NBA: Well, that's changing rapidly now as UK-European players are catching up -- the reason again IMO has nothing to do with race but has to do with basic practiced fundamentals and dedication and team play over selfish individual play instead of grandstand dunking and chest-pounding.

I'll take the 80's Celts and the 80's Lakers against todays rap-culture oriented teams anyday. Much better team basketball.

NFL: Starting to change IMO. Notice recent suspensions over the asinine behavior of certain players and notice that Mike Vick (that was super-hyped beyond belief) never has and probably never will win any NFL championship. Not because he's not a fantastic athlete (he is) and pretty good quarterback (he is) but because IMO he has been placed in an untenable position of being the all-star quarterback that needs to represent the semi-rap culture of sorts. He'll never lose his job as a starter, and no decent quarterback will ever want to go to Atlanta either while he's there because he's always going to be named the starter regardless of his overall effectiveness.

NHL: ? Easy - but ... I would like to see more black players get into hockey -- might be more interesting to watch.

MLB:Actually more dominated by poor latino Countries now that raise them up young playing baseball with better players by the time they're in middle school in Cuba they're better than 95% of all US high-schoolers and most US college players. Again, it's about dedication and repetition with practice. Not race IMO.

Imus should flip the bird to CBS, MSNBC, his non-supporting sponsors and head over to satellite radio. He doesn't need this BS and I am surprised that he is apologizing and playing the defense to all of this. It makes him look like a pussy! It's time he went on the offense!

LOL, Fox news was showing footage of a protest outside of CBS yesterday...the zoomed out and there was more cameramen then protesters. I think I counted 5 protesters.

I never saw his 'Speech From Hell' but it has been mentioned in the media so I'm reading it now. So damn funny, people were probably a little more sensitive back in the day when it was said but as I am reading it I can't stop laughing.

The last paragraph of Imus' speech at the 1996 Radio/TV Correspondents Association Dinner...

One of the things that it seems to me that the media ought to think about in the coming months, particularly in this election year, consumed by the chaos of the campaign, is the sensibilities of the people you are covering. The way you cover them, and your treatment of them as individuals. For if nothing else, they are all good and decent people who, for whatever reason, have chosen to devote the bulk of their adult lives to public service. People who possess a passion for ideas and ideals to which they have committed extraordinary energy. It is almost always irrelevant and short-sighted to seize only on the unfortunate human imperfections of people who frankly have demonstrated an often puzzling willingness to endure great sacrifice, both personally and professionally, for what they see as a noble summons to serve the greater good. More often than not, however, that is exactly the case. You folks focus on each misstep, every misspoken word, each testy outburst. Do they not deserve some degree of our respect? To be treated with the dignity that at least acknowledges the mission of altruism they believe they're conducting. Shouldn't we be willing to give them some benefit of the doubt?

I don't think so.

Actually anyone who isn't a loser cares about the issues behind what is taking place here. They are much larger than either Imus and his 2 second comment or the Rutgers women's basketball team. Ignore the thread if you don't want to participate.

As far as the "taking over AMerican sports" thing goes, that may be true in some situations, but no longer in the NBA. Look at the two leading MVP candidates this season. Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash.

If anyone have any doubts about the self serving nature of all of this, then just read the article below. This entire huppla is just a way for Sharpton and Jackson to apply pressure to the broadcasters to get more blacks on broadcasting. And they're using Imus as an excuse. Jackson and Sharpton's actions are 100x more disgusting than what Imus said.

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Imus-Protests.html

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has sought Imus' firing, said he will meet Thursday with CBS officials. The Rev. Jesse Jackson said he planned to meet with both CBS and NBC executives on Thursday with a delegation of civil rights activists and lawmakers to discuss the Imus situation and diversity in broadcasting.

Jesse Jackson is an anti-Semitic racist who once called NYC "hymetown" meaning it's loaded with Jews. Sharpton has made his share of anti-Semitic remarks over the years, including calling Jews "diamond merchants" and "white interlopers." It's time people saw these two jackasses for what they really are.

What's Jackson's claim to fame anyway, other than being with MLK when he was assassinated? If only the wind in Memphis shifted 6° that morning 39 years ago...

NSF4, for a black guy you seem to have very little knowledge of derogatory terms for black people. Would you not mind if, for example, a parent of one of the white girls you dated called you a nappy head, big nosed, fat lipped darkie?

Ooh I love the part where the white guy tells the black guy why he should be offended!

To be fair, NSF4 doesn't represent the views of the black community any more than Sharpton does. Many black people were highly offended by the words, as were many women. And there's also a huge group that don't give a damn.

I think the angle that's overlooked is how his inclusion of the word "hoes" made this much more than a race issue. If he said "those are some nappy headed girls", he would have had to apologize but would have never been in danger of losing his job. For future reference people should try not to mix their racism and sexism.

As for me, I knew Imus was going to be fired the first time I heard him talk about how many black friends he has. If he had more balls, he might have escaped this, but now that I see how much he was getting paid, I understand why he handled this wrong. I would have never campaigned for him to be fired, but I have no problem with him facing the consequences of his actions. He's got a lot of money, he still owns his ranch. If he still wants to help kids, there's nothing stopping him.

I know what nappy means. I know what n*gger means. I know that my excellent compatriot means, I know what porch monkey means. I know what Uncle Tom means.

Don't sit there and try to tell me what I do and do not know regarding terms.

I just don't take offense when someone says something stupid like nappy headed. I have bigger things to worry about than what someone who doesn't know me thinks of me. If someone called me a "n!gger," I wouldn't take offense, but I'd feel pity for the person that thinks that using the word would somehow make me feel bad or feel some undue harm. Quite the contrary, I'd see it more as weakness on their part to stoop to the lowest of the low just for the hell of it.

As for the "White girls that I have dated?" My GF is the first white girl that I have dated and I have been with her for 3 and a half years and have known her for almost eight.

And if she called me nappy-headed, big nosed fat lipped dork, I'd in turn tell her that her dad is a short, big-nosed Greek with crooked teeth. We'd laugh, then go make out.

Life is too short to get worked up over petty insults.

All these activists and special groups who want justice...they never get it. All they get is our pity and I think it's a shame.

Firing Imus was not justice, it was pity.

And who more pitaful than Al Sharpton and Imus.
