While I've been encouraged that some of my more conservative friends now loathe Trump and intend to vote for Biden, I'm still worried that there are a number of people who refuse to stop howling from the trees. Obama getting elected really broke these people. I hope we can return to the relative sanity of the pre teahadi/Freedom Caucus days soon.

WSJ reports that Trump is closely following "boater" developments and wants to participate. We are totally going to get pics of Trump on a yacht with absurdly sized flags.

Also how does a bunch of boats and yachts flying the biggest Trump flags they can find constitute a "silent majority". I mean literally yes they are not speaking but come on. These clearly must be the shy Trump voters I keep hearing about.

And yet again Twitter goes after Trump tweet:

“This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about civic and election integrity. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.”

Tweet is:
"So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud. "

You can't make this stuff up.

As far as I know, there are no US Mail Drop Boxes just for votes. At least not in my county in FL.You can mail in your vote, but the only drop boxes specifically for voting are located at the voting sites for write in votes. Those are not run by the postal system, but by the election office. I don't know how using them would make it possible to vote multiple times.

Ours are placed at early voting places. They have nothing to do with Republican or Democrat areas, just voting locations.

Not Covid sanitized? The one I used you never touched the box, just slid the sealed ballot envelope into the opening in the box - like it would matter even if you did touch the box. Voter drop box transmission of Covid19 is... why am I even going there?

A big fraud applies, but not to the Voter Drop Boxes.

Oregon does drop boxes. Most libraries have a locked down container you drop your ballot into.

I treat all known habitual liars the same, especially Trump. The moment they start yapping a switch gets turned on in my head that directs me to start concentrating on that last awesome ribeye steak I had for dinner or the time I bought my first car all on my own.

I get the feeling that just two boroughs of say, NYC and straight Dem voters represents very close to higher than the total number of boat owners in all of FL, regardless of their fascist tendencies to cowardly support Orange Julius.

some "silent majority"

You just don't appreciate the feelings of the common working class American forgotten *checks notes* yacht and/or boat owner.

How elitist.

Given that the only people who would be deterred by his "OMG DROP BOXES HAVE COVID ALL OVER THEM!!"tweet are people just as stupid as he is. I’m not sure what he’s hoping to achieve.

Trump clinging to that last unraveling thread from his MAGA cap as he falls off the precipice of his own undoing.

This guy will be best known for crapping all over his home field and then slipping into a nasty looping face plant on every one of those steaming piles.

This is a big deal on the testing front. Reliable lateral flow antigen tests are poised to enter the market at scale.

The speed is nice, but the value of it still depends on the accuracy. I already swab people with Abbot rapid tests that give results in an hour, but they give a lot of false negatives.

If a patient ends up getting admitted, we do a rapid Abbot swab to determine if they need a negative pressure room wherever they're going, and we do a Diatherix test that is much more accurate that takes about 2 days for results, to be more sure whether they are positive or negative.

Lateral flow tests have their issues, with false positives. These quick tests ca be good for screening, but any such positive needs to be verified with a gold standard test such as a PCR. Lateral flow tests with sensitivity or specificity of below 90% are shit.
For instance, HIV testing that was/is initially done in the same manner (lateral flow HIV Ab, p24 antigen), test would be verfied by PCR, or an ELISA.

For instance, the spate of shitty lateral flow Ab tests from China in the early days of COVID-19 were worthless.
Any lateral flow test with sensitivity ot specificity of less that 90% are garbage. Some of those Chinese test were bordering on 50%, IIRC.

For those of us without the specific knowledge, what does that then mean in terms of test accuracy and false positive/negative rates?

Sensitivity of the tests, is the ability of the test to test a positive patient and diagnose him/her as a positive.
Specificity is being able to test a patient that is negative a have the test post a negative.
The closer the numbers are to 100% the better.
Misdiagnosing a person who is positive and testing negative, is a false negative.
Misdiagnosing a person who is negative and testing positive is a false positive.
Having false negatives running around is the worse of the two.i.e. Positive persons running around thinking they are negative.

For lateral flow tests:
Sensitivity rates should be 98%+ , IMO. You really need to catch the people who are positive.
Specificity rates should also be high, IMO. Greater than 95%
