I can't - tried once and passed out before I ever made it into the room. I've a real bad phobia of needles - recurrent nightmares as a kid. Always makes me feel a bit less macho that I can't do it - props to you guys who can.

When I first read the letter and it said I was positive for HIV, I almost dropped to my knees and cried. But I hastily read the rest of the letter and sighed a huge relief and drank some beer.

In the letter, they requested that I be re-tested, as I have a rare blood type, but that if the same results came back, they'd blacklist me. So I donated blood at work instead of KYBC, and they sent me a similar letter, and they blacklisted me immediately.

Wow. Fuck. That.

My brother had a similar thing. It wasn' HIV, but something related to HIV. They said they did a test and got a little bit of activity which wasn't enough for a positive result, but warranted further testing. They did a repeat and it came up negative, but they still banned him for life.

I just became eligible for the first time in several years. I've never donated, but I am going to try to do it this week or next. I'm going to a Malaria endemic region again in a few weeks, so I will be banned for a year when I get back.

I am afraid of blood and needles. I always had to look away when I got ammu. shots.

Maybe one day I can give blood.

I've done it a few times. Key thing is to prepare yourself well; eat a good meal beforehand, drink FLUIDS (if you don't drink enough before you give blood, veins are likely to be small or collapse when you give blood; happened one time).

I'm not fond of needles either but I just try not to move the arm with the needle and think of other things.

I started giving when I was in the Marines and stopped after I got out. A year ago my daughter asked if I give blood and I said I used to and she asked why not anymore so I started up again. I get off 4 hrs for work to do it so it is win win for all.
