Meh, some people are just sketchy. As long as you're in public, whats the worry?

I suppose if you're a little 60lb girl, you might want to have some backup with you just in case something were to go wrong. But if you're an adult, chances are there is little that will happen so long as you don't set up your meet in the slums.

Be a better judge of your prospective buyer. If something seems off, kindly send them on their way.

Would have been more exciting if he pulled a gun and shot you! What kinda thread is this? You should put this on the Rants and Raves on Craigslist.

He then slowly unzippers his vest (now he was kind of hood, so I was half expecting a knife to pop out) and then says his van is parked close by. So I say OK (who cares?).

Have you ever clicked on the wrong category? Maybe he thought he was in casual encounters.

If you're not comfortable meeting up with strangers, then CL is not for you. It went exactly how CL is supposed to go... yet you're complaining?

You don't understand. He unzipped his hooded vest . . . cue ominous music . . . slowly. D:

Oh, see, it's the ominous music that does it. Imagine the same scene, but:

cue Sexy Bass guitar

Or

Cue Yakkety Sax

The possibilities are endless.

To be honest, I've never had problems selling through online classified sites. I sold a pre-algebra book, an iPod I had, an XBOX 360, and recently my laptop (not the one in sig; that's the one I just bought with the money from that) with zero problems. The only thing you have to be weary of is fraudulent emails, but if you're not a complete fool then those are very easy to see through. Once you find a good, serious buyer--you can see by the way the person talks/communicates--, then everything else is a walk in the park.

So you still got your money. Why the hell are you whining? :/

As a previous poster alluded, up here in Wisconsin, the Milwaukee police have started encouraging Craigslist buyers and sellers to meet at police stations.

Apparently there have been multiple events recently where buyers showed up only to be robbed of their money at gunpoint, and vice-versa with sellers being robbed of iPads and other expensive electronics.

I just did my first Craigslist deal. It went fine and the guy I met seemed liked a good regular joe. I think I still prefer trading via mail though... alot less running around town.

I was selling a Ti-83 graphing calculator at the beginning of the semester and had a guy who said his son would be by to pick it up since the son worked nearby. The son sounded like he was in his 20's, and he refused to come to my house to pick it up. "I'm sorry I don't feel comfortable coming to your house. Can we meet up at the CVS?" YOU don't feel comfortable? Look buddy, my house isn't going anywhere, if I rob you here, you'll have an easy time telling the police where it happened and who the likely culprit was. If anything, I should be the one worried about letting strangers into my home. I told him ten other people emailed me about it and he could go to hell, so his dad drove 30 minutes out to my place to pick it up.

I have them come to my house. Cl is full of idiots but it is no less safe than classified ad through th ages, and I fact safer as generally there is a legit ip to track with if something goes wrong.

One craigslist I did as a buyer (2006) was to go to sellers residence a few miles away. Nice huge house with a mid 50s couple who were getting rid of their computer stuff. Scored a barely used HP 2100TN B&W laser printer (90 pages printed) for $60 bucks. It was usually selling for $300 that time.

With the nice neighborhood I live in, I usually end up going to their house to pick it up and pay in cash. I've done it several times and never had a problem doing it as a buyer.

Yeah, if I was honestly really afraid of a CL deal...well, CPL and take my 41magnum with me (not into someone's house, mind you - I doubt I'd go to someone's house though, without taking someone with me.)

Back in the old days the only way to buy second hand was to do it in person. My best buy was a Fender Twin Reverb amp. I went to the guys house, drank a couple beers, shot the shit for awhile, and bought the amp after playing it. He tried to pull one over on me cause the reverb didn't work, but I didn't mention it since he was cool, and the price was decent regardless. After getting it home, I reattached the broken wire, and all was good.

Oh yea, and I didn't get raped :^D

i've been throwing tons of unused electronics/computer gear on cl lately, but some people are just shady..

So today i sold an i5 desktop i built and stopped using, eventually assuming i would have to part it out and sell parts individually. We agreed to meet at a local supermarket, and when i got there i parked in the front right by the entrance. Called the buyer, who told me he was in the back corner of the parking lot...ok, great, come to the front and pick it up.

In the meantime i put the computer in a cart, just to speed things up. He parks his van in the parking lot, walks over to me and i ask if he was ***. He looks down, keeps walking to me and i say here it is, and ask if he has questions. Nope. [he then slowly unzippers his vest he slowly unzipps his pants and says do you mind if i whip this out (now he was kind of hood, so i was half expecting a knife to pop out) and then says his van is parked close by. So i say ok (who cares?).

He pays me, and i gtfo at max speed. Maybe i'm paranoid, but it's shady asking me to come to a corner in the parking lot and then later randomly telling me your van is close by as you're looking for your money. but said he had the money in his black van with the windows covered up and license plates that said "badassmf"

fixed

I wanted a Roku, so I searched for one on CL. I emailed the guy, told him I didn't want to haggle, just to buy it. He gave me his address and I drove there. I knocked, he let me in. He pointed to the box with the Roku. I picked it up, opened the box to make sure it wasn't full of Ramen. I gave him the cash and I left. Whole transaction took 3 emails and less than 30 seconds inside his house.

I'm watching my new Roku right now. I paired it up with my phone and it works like a champ.

I love CL

I never talk on the phone. I prefer email or text. I talk on the phone for 40+ hours a week at work. The last thing I want to do afterwards is talk on the stupid phone.
