Wow. He signs on the dotted line, now he wants out of it to return to Florida. What is this guy thinking?

Maybe he wanted more money for his assistants but couldn't get it...maybe he wanted certain assistants that declined...either case you work those things out before signing and instead of backing out of a signed deal with the biggest career advancement you've ever had. Idiot.

It'll be interesting to hear his excuse...probably will give some BS about how he learned his heart was really in college ball at Florida etc.

Also want to point out that Anthony Grant is getting SCREWED! Reports were that he had already started calling his VCU recruits and telling them that there was a good chance he wouldn't be there next year.

I am SO glad that schmuck didn't gome to UK.

UK got a great coach anyway. They will be just fine.

Still amazed that he is doing this so quickly. His stock will never be higher and the NBA elite don't forget easily. If he goes back to UF he is in college ball to stay.

That is probably what he wants. All of these great college coaches get tickled with the idea of going to the NBA. It's an ego thing. I'm just glad to see that he was able to take a step back before it was too late (hopefully).

Let's see. He could stay at UF working for a 50-50 record and a NCAA apperance every 2-3 years for the next 20 years and never worry about job security for a shorter work year and almost as much money; or go to the NBA and be canned in 4 if he doesn't have the team in the conference finals.

Tough call there.

Not quite almost the same money.

He would be right back coaching college ball the day after he was fired from the NBA (with a bigger bank account). Failure in the NBA would mean nothing to his future NCAA career.

I heard his NBA contract was for 5mil'ish a year while UF was willing to go up to about 4.

He's at a place ready to start naming places after him while he'd be lucky for the players at Orlando to name a urinal after him.

And when he went back to the NCAA, how many openings would there be better than where he is now. How long was it since UK was open? And he already turned that one down once.

Yea, I heard that they were willing to rename the O'Connel center to something more of the Donovan style like the Waffle House or IHOP!

Wouldn't you rather see him gone? All this does is keep UK at no better than 3rd (maybe 4th like last year) in the East

The work year isn't shorter. Just different from the NBA. When the season is over at the Division I collegiate level, coaches are busy traveling, recruiting, evaluating, raising donations, speaking, etc. They may not coach as many games as the NBA but they aren't sitting on a beach and sipping colorful alcoholic beverages with umbrellas either. The other bits can be just as stressful as coaching a full NBA season.

Kentucky has been challenged every decade like this, and at the end of the decade, Kentucky is still Kentucky while the others drop off. Look at Tennesee in the 70's, LSU in the 80's. Look at Arkansas in the 90's. Kentucky is still Kentucky and when you look at the top of the all time wins, you'll see one name.....

We'll be back....we always are!

I hope you are since it makes Pearl's orange jacket that much more important. No more UK takeovers of Knoxville with him in town. We might actually become a rival again.

By the way, do you really think that UK will be 3rd or 4th in the SEC East next year? I can see a stacked Tennessee at the top but why would Florida or anyone else be ahead of Kentucky next year? We have a stud class for next year and have several key returning players. Florida lost their top 6 players. Maybe Vanderbilt?

Not really but it's fun to say

Not to be a homer but I think next year is UT and everyone else. UK will likely be #2 in the East (and overall since the West is beyond awful). Billy G will have them back to top form soon.

It's been a long time since I've been pumped for bball before a fball season.

How many days of golf did Spurrier get in at UF compared to the Skins.
