In my neighborhood Acura drivers are probably the worst. They routinely do the dumbest shit and also get the angriest with everyone else.
To be clear, I do NOT think buying an Acura makes you a self-centered ******************************.

I think being a self-centered ****************************** inclines you towards Acura.

Maybe these are the Fast and Furious crowd who all had $800 slammed Civics or Integras, all grown up?

I dont know what caused it. Maybe TV. Movies. Video games. Maybe theres some online cult spreading the word about how cool it is to drive like a selfish asshole.

I thought the Fast & Furious movies used American muscle cars exclusively?

Na they were responsible for all of the slammed 90's Civics (and other Japanese cars):

Round here seems the Audi drivers are the douchiest

Around here the order is:

1) Lifted Trucks
2) Subaru WRX (not other Subaru’s)
3) Audi
4) BMW

The only reason Audi is above BMW around here is that there are way more Audi drivers around here.

Lifted trucks are far and away the worst offenders though.

My definition of douche driver is someone on the cellphone speakerphone or dictating notes. For some reason, these douches like to bring the phone up or near their face while talking and not look at the road. They're so oblivious to their slow driving speed and surrounding. They drive me nuts. And these douches are normally driving some Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus. I hate them more than the slow Corolla or Camry drivers.

Nothing bothers me more than seeing someone with an obvious Iphone in their hands awkwardly holding it flat down and talking to the bottom of their phone like they were still using a nextel in car I know has Bluetooth. So much effort is going into that conversation that they are just oblivious to everything else on the road.

I have a BMW and I'm a douche driver, but I was a douche driver when I owned a Honda, too.

Repair costs are outrageous (coming from a Honda), and I definitely have had more issues mechanically in 2 years than I had with my Honda in 5 years.

That said, I wouldn't go back. Acceleration, handling...even the noise from the turbo inline 6 are things I can't put a price on.

yes it was very nice acceleration, the M2 felt really great. but what was it for when the car would switch to "drive carefully now" mode even when i was driving it and i am by far not a douche driver...
Also going for fuel every 340km was horrible. Car is way too expensive for such compromises.
If you would put so much money into japanese car, you would probably live happier

I can easily put a price on it - ~2-300/month in maintenance/repairs, ~200 in gas, ~180 insurance.

I just did the math, and you're right on the money.

Honda Insight, but have had similar experiences with various Hondas and Toyotas.

doesn't surprise me. I have had my old civic as a first car (all cool with red seats, and such) and still have it till now. Only problems i had with it (it is now 78000km) that it eats the battery when not used.

Yes. $700/month is the going rate for something that can hit 130mph+ with regularity while cushioning your ass with heated leather seats.

Is insurance that high on used BMW? Over $2k a year on cheap used car?

My car hasn't had $300 in repairs in 17 years...
I've had plenty of $300+ repairs on my Toyotas. Every time I changed the timing belt & water pump, it was around $1k at the Toyota dealer. Granted, the repairs were considered wear/tear and service items but it's pretty much forced maintenance and necessary repairs in my book. I never had to worry about replacing the timing belt with my Chevy and Dodge vehicles because they used superior chains. I'm glad Toyota finally switched to chains on their current vehicles but that doesn't benefit me since my three Toyotas are older models with rubber timing belt. Thank goodness I had all three replaced the past year so I don't have to worry about it for the next 7-10 years. But forking out $3k to all the timing belt/water pump replacement sucked.

I got my body repaired on my Activehybrid 5 from hitting a deer. My insurance was billed around $7500 and I was billed $200 deductible. The damage... wasn't visually much at all but god, the parts were expensive. The headlamp unit was $1500 just for the part, for example.
