Newegg has the best pics in the buis, but not the best prices anymore. And their shipping charges on (almost) everything sucks. When shipping is $5, for a IDE cable, something is wrong. Especially since shipping is more than the cable itself.

ZZF, monarch, mwave are were its at for me now. newegg can gouge someone else.

NewEgg still has decent prices on most items, including low end cpus. Their high end cpus are just not priced very well.

Well for me I shop around and for what I buy newegg has the best prices. If a person can find a better price I say go for it. We are all value shopers.

Your topic title is "Don't buy AMD @ Newegg". What did I mis-read?

that is the damn title and it is to get your attention. smart people read the thread and links and make up their minds if they want to spend more money for a cpu at newegg. so yes "dont buy amd at newegg" is the right thing to say for now.

Actually smart people avoid inflamatory threads that use misrepresentation as an excuse to get others to read the thread!!

There are many differences in prices between online sellers of processors. What you have shown is your lack of understanding of common business principles. Why should they sell the CPU's at a loss when there is no need? Is it newegg's fault their stock is better than the competition? Is being the lowest priced vendor make you the best? Do smart customers value other parts of a supplier besides cost? You ought to try being a commissioned salesman before attempting to answer those questions.

It's because Newegg purchases the vast majority of their processors on the gray market, and doesn't get price protection from AMD like other major vendors.

Well, have a look at this price guide link:

http://www.sharkyextreme.com/guides/WCPG/article.php/3525106

NewEgg has the lowest price on 5 cpu models
ZFF has the lowest price on 6 models
EWiz has the lowest price on 8 models
Monarch has the lowest price on 9 models

If NewEgg has the best price on the model you want go there, if not buy from the other places. No big deal. I bought my current cpu from NewEgg as they had the best price, but i would have bought from somewhere else if they didn't.

NewEgg is great for Intel cpus, though. Have a look:

you are such an ass. saving $100 on an amd 4000+ is not being cheap, its being smart. anyway, newegg has now lowered their prices on amd. i guess they have new stock now.

newegg pricing is high. but i like their web interface; it's a good site, fast and usually cheap shipping. i had to cancel an order once, and that went okay. never really dealt with customer service for like rma or return, etc.

It's also highly likely that AMD has a special deal with some of these retailers.... just as Newegg has some of the best prices on Intel cpus. Anyone who works in wholesale or retail know it's impossible to consistently offer the lowest price on your entire stock of goods... unless you work for the devil.... or Walmart.

Did anyone notice that the 4200 X2 from mwave is a "Manchester" core with 512x2 cache?
And the 4200 X2 from newegg was the "Toledo" core with 1MBx2 cache?

Or am I looking at this wrong?

keysplayr2003 (as in the Frederick Keys?)

You need to go to the eye doctor (which I happened to do yesterday ). The links are for the 4400 X2, not the 4200 X2. All 4200's/4600's are 512 KB caches (x2), while all 4400's/4800's are 1 MB caches (x2). There's no such thing as a 4200 with a 1 MB cache (x2). See AMD's chart comparing the different X2 processors.

As in, "I play the piano". Sorry about the mix up. I thought I was reading it wrong.
I'm too distracted here at work. LOL

I beg to differ. Newegg is like the Dell of computer vendors. They have the best customer service, but high pricing. When you are [Newegg], the number #1 computer vendor, the 91st most visited site on the web, why drop prices? People are going to buy from them anyways. This is when things go downhill for these stores who have this mentality. Just my opinion.

Newegg has "dynamic" pricing. They often have the very best on some items (for example, they consistently have the lowest price on OCZ Plat Rev 2 PC-3200 memory). And they periodically will run a sale on this item or that. Over time, you can purchase almost anything at Newegg at an excellent price, but you won't be able to find the best prices for everything all at once.

The best strategy is to shop for the best prices from among reliable vendors and buy whereever the price is lowest. I've bought maybe 30% of my computer stuff from Newegg at a great price. The remaining 70% I've purchased elsewhere.

I actually think subjects like these bring up interesting conversation. But now might be a good time to admit when you're wrong, or at least admit your reaction was way too rash.
