I think we all know they're a bit dishonest since they changed the rebate form for that clock from $50 to about $10...they deserve a couple smackdowns:|

I used cyberrebate once, spent over $800 dollars on their stuff, and had no problems at all. That article points out the fact that a barbie doll costs $50 bucks in a store, but cyberrebate charges the inflated price of $350. The difference being that with cyberrebate after 14 weeks you get back the $350, therefor you end up spending a net of $0. With going to a store without rebates, after 14 weeks you are still out your $50. The reason the prices are so high is because that is how Cyberrebate makes their money. That article is completely one sided in my opinion.

of course.. for the 14 weeks, cyberrebate would collect thousands of dollars from customers.. invest it in the money market or probably forex and earn about 20-25% high-risk windfall profit, notwithstanding the money they already earn from customers who "forget" to cash their rebates. Why give money to let someone else make more out of it? Anyway, its just my opinion..

Blah, blah, blah.

I've ordered over $10,000 worth of stuff from these guys in the last 7 months. So far I've received every rebate, except for about $1,000 I have in process. Those checks are scheduled to arrive in March.

I've received stuff that I got as promotional give aways, I've given some away to the nephews, I've donated some to toy drives, and I've kept some for myself. In fact I'm typing this on a programmable IBM keyboard I got from them.

I time my purchase to hit right at my CC cut-off date, that way I'm cash out of pocket only about 4-5 weeks. I've never bought anything from them that had less than a 100% rebate.

Of course anytime this comes up, expect someone to speculate that they make their money from the interest. Save yourself the embarrasement and first do the math, or if that's too much of a challenge just search for past threads and read why that is very unlikely.

And of course I go through ebates so I've actually got back about $600 more than I've spent (they used to have 7% commission).

I've experienced as good customer support from them as any other rebate service. Better than most.

My only hesitation is that they go out of business while I have rebates outstanding.

However if you're lazy or unorganized, I'd avoid this site.

Of course everytime this comes up expect someone to speculate that CR makes a bunch of money from the interest they earn. Save yourself the embarassment and first do they math. Or if that's too challenging do a search on past posts and read why that scenario is very unlikely.

If you've got lots and I mean lots of money to have tied up for 3 months then it's not bad, but they are definitely making millions of dollars in interest off of everyone's money collectively. You have to admit it was a very smart business idea!

I would never buy form them.

I saw a mouspad on their site for $99!!!! doesn't a mousepad cost $2 or less?

From an earlier post of mine:

Seems like every 2 weeks this thread comes up. Think what you want of their offerings and if you wish to participate or not. But please think things through before you judge the deal. Example, every time somebody, without thinking it through, says something to effect of "they must make their money off of the interest from holding your money".

Let's assume these guys are financial wizards and can earn 12% annual interest on the money they get from you. On a $100 item this means they'll earn $4 if they keep your money for 4 months. It costs a business about $3.50 to process a check and they'll pay Visa or Mastercard about $2 for the charge. Right there they're already not making any profit off the interest.

They also have to pack and ship the item. They also need to process the rebate. Then there are the marketing and advertising costs. Not to mention the office space and paper clips. Oh, almost forgot the cost of the item.

I doubt their business model depends on the interest they make from the float. Most likely they depend on a certain percentage of people not sending in for the rebate. But I could be wrong.

Would it be possible that they earn money as time goes on? If their sales volumes keeps increasing, they just pay people back with the money new people are spending. For instance, if they keep growing or say they same, they will always have cash on hand. If for some reason they stop selling completely, and had to send everybody rebates, there is probably no way they could accomplish that. Just a thought.

CyberRebate is a joke. They lure people in with these outlandish "rebates" so people think it's a great deal even though they're paying ludicrous amounts of money for one item. They have no morals. "Let's overcharge people who can't even afford these items because they think they're going to get their rebates, only to be fooled and not receive them at all!" No wonder consumer spending has decreased.
