Be careful about power bricks too, I got a no name that worked fine off ebay but over time it's output has gone downhill enough that my laptop gives me an error that it's the wrong AC adapter and runs slower because it doesn't put out enough power.

My brother found an outfit that sells on Amazon that sells really good batteries for cheap. Got an extended Dell battery for some 4 year old Dell (the silver case kinda chunky looking ones with Pentium M chips, but widescreens) and it lasts longer than the original did by a long shot, almost 4 hours. $40 shipped

But yeah it really depends on brand for sure.

matter of fact, i had the same problem
getting a no name Battery that is compatible for my HP notebook

it was doing a good 2.5 to 3 hours on idle
until... it just stops discharging power in 3 months LOL

and warranty was over after 90 days cost 1/5 the price of the original.. so there you go.
lesson learned

I seriously doubt 5200 mAh battery would last 8 hours in a full-featured laptop. Maybe in a netbook.

Hey TC ! - x201 isnt much of a laptop... basically a netbook. No CD and ~11" screen.

Guys - seems to be mixed it seems. Regardless I'm going OEM from now on. Between a bad powerbrick, 200 when they say 6000 pages laser cartridges, and this battery I've learned. Just get OEM.

For those of you who's been using these aftermarket batteries regularly for years, how well do they wear after repeated cycles? I heard that while these batteries will perform well new, their ability to hold charge degrades much quicker than the higher quality japanese cells used in genuine OEM batteries.
So while a genuine OEM battery may last you 500 cycles, an aftermarket one may only last 300 cycles?

I'm usually able to find a new genuine battery for a pretty good deal off ebay so I haven't gone the aftermarket route yet.

Like I said, I do IT and have bought lots of these aftermarket batteries - even "name brand" aftermarket batteries like BTI fail much much more often and earlier than OEM across the board. Pricing in my experience isn't *that* much better for a good non-oem batt anyway.
