You shouldn't have to "take it apart".

Do you have Windows 7 on a DVD? On a USB flash drive? Or haven't you bought it yet?

Do you have a known legitimate 25 character Windows 7 Product Key?

Don't do it. Windows 10 will be available soon as an update for your HP. If you put 7 on it, you're going to lose that option, not to mention the drivers headaches you will have. Time to get used to the new OS from Microsoft. 10's coming soon..

What part do you not like?

The biggest adjustment for me was the start screen. I still don't like it, but I have no problem using it. 99.9% of the time I am on the desktop so it's not a big deal. Think of the start screen as a big start menu, the main screen being "pinned" items. You just need to take a little time to "pin" the items you use the most and unpin what you don't want.

But there are several start menu replacements out there. many of which are free.

I like 10 a lot.

I think it's superior to 7 in just about every way.

The Project Spartan browser is nice.

Most people seem to just want the Start Menu back, and 10 has that.

you say superior in every way...care to give a few examples of this? I also have several computers running windows 7 64 bit sp1. probably will upgrade to windows 10 at some point.

I've been running 10 on a test mule of a computer for a while now, and I have had very few problems.

I run old software on it, and I have changed components many times.

I have overclocked CPUs with it.

I have tried several different brands and speeds of ram.

It seems to be very stable.

I like the browser, I like the look, I like the start menu. I even like the notification sidebar.

I built an i3-4360 system a while back specifically to test 10 with some old software our company uses to see if a switch to it will be possible without any drama.

Every time a new build comes out, I play with it again to see if anything has changed.

The only glitch I have had has been with Core Temp. Win 10 doesn't seem to like Core Temp.

I can't recall having any other problems.

I have not experienced anything that would make me stay away.

Don't feel bad, the 1.0rc6 CoreTemp driver doesn't like Win8 / 8.1 either. It hangs apps, crashes Windows, etc. Only works stable in Win7. I figure that the driver writer isn't making the code compatible with the manditory ASLR in Win8+.

Same here! It offers a confirmation exchange for the free upgrade, and also shows a path to get the beta 10 via Windows Update. I intend to do that, but will wait until 10 is final.

Windows 8 will not properly run devcon from a command line. If you tell it to output to a text file (devcon status * > myfile.txt) then myfile.txt will be empty. That is one issue with win 8 that breaks some of my software. It is because devcon is forced to run as a system process or some such nonsense. Luckily, Windows 8 has some API functionality that is even more powerful than devcon, but that does nothing to help with old software.
