Regarding the OP...fair enough, this is what we should have been doing all along anyways. Looking at the problem honestly and with the intent to solve it. Forget emotions, forget secondary objectives, we really need to be honest here and evaluate how to really solve the problem.
Unfortunitly, this is not what has been happening at all. Part of the problem is that a lot of people have been caught up in attacking the other side instead of critically trying to solve the problem. It's something we can fix, as long as we're really willing to work together. That's the problem though, as long as it remains a left vs right issue, we are never going to actually acomplish anything. The other side isn't your enemy, the terrorists are. This statement is so blindingly obvious that it should go without saying, if I didn't believe that many people have forgotten this.
