Regarding the OP...fair enough, this is what we should have been doing all along anyways. Looking at the problem honestly and with the intent to solve it. Forget emotions, forget secondary objectives, we really need to be honest here and evaluate how to really solve the problem.

Unfortunitly, this is not what has been happening at all. Part of the problem is that a lot of people have been caught up in attacking the other side instead of critically trying to solve the problem. It's something we can fix, as long as we're really willing to work together. That's the problem though, as long as it remains a left vs right issue, we are never going to actually acomplish anything. The other side isn't your enemy, the terrorists are. This statement is so blindingly obvious that it should go without saying, if I didn't believe that many people have forgotten this.

Close our borders down.

what a lovely solution.
how about just killing everyone else in the world. that way we'll be safe, right?

Its a big leap from closing the borders to mass genocide. How did you make it?

his solution to combating terrorism seems to be not allowing anyone to come into the US. pretty much equal to fvck everyone else. typical of the view of many americans, that an american life is worth more than the life of any other human being. which is in part what has led to terorism in the world.

You are a drama queen.

There is no reason to limit our speech. We should be discussing MORE ideas not less ideas. This is not a funeral. This is P&N. Talk about whatever you want. Blame whoever you want, but have a reason for doing so. Again, after 9/11, there was not enough honest debate and it led us to a bad place.

Except if your ideas contain any ideas which may be christian.. then you are labeled a right wing radical and you opinion no longer matters.

There isn't. It is a risk we have to live with.

It is simply impossible to prevent attacks like those in London. Sure, with good intelligence you might be able to prevent 90% of the attacks but what about the remaining 10%? There is simply no way to protect whole cities.

And just to put things into perspective, so far 38 people have died in London. Of course that is a tragedy but there are 8 million people living in London, how many do you think dies in e.g road accidents (or even violent crimes) every year?

Compared to that the risk of being killed in a terrorist attack is pretty insignificant.

We need to keep this in mind when discussing what to do.

There is always a risk of random violence. But clearly, British people don't need to live with as high as a risk as they do now. Their hightened risk is directly related to their government's involvement in Iraq.

Umm... no, the heightened risk is directly related to the terrorists blowing up bombs in subways, trains, etc.. This is the problem with you Infohawk, you can't place the blame where it belongs, with the people committing the acts..

Actually, the problem is you not understanding the difference between causation and blame. Anyway, go on in your black and white mindset. Don't be surprised when things don't work out because the world isn't in black and white.

The problem is there's a culture of Islamic evil that's either supported or ignored by leaders, groups, and countries. Since the end of the Cold War this culture has been emboldened and assertive.

The answer is we need to go to the source with the necessary will, military force, and moral certainty in our cause. It will takes many years. There'll be ups and downs. We cannot stop all terrorist attacks. But by killing those that seek our destruction and enforcing progressive changes in those sick societies, we will succeed.

Returning to the bad old days of passive defense is infinately more destructive to us and the world.

That's all folks.....
