Why is everyone calling it ketchup anyways, I used to be catsup.

J/K, a bit.

This is pretty good stuff, my sister used to do some work at Red Gold in the specialty pepper and spices greenhouses, who make a lot of even the regular store brand versions up and down the East Coast.

If you see this in a market it's pretty good, we still keep some around for occasional usage on good stuff.

Is it faux pas to put two hot dogs side by side in the same bun?

I don't believe that practice breaks any social taboo, but two hot dogs don't sit comfortably in one bun. You end up with a hot dog that is less than the sum of its parts.

I will continue to put ketchup on hot dogs, burgers, and other meat products.

Mustard, on the other hand, is a biohazard and should never be served anywhere, ever. You might as well put arsenic on your food.

Chicago style hotdogs ftw. I make them at home all the time, even the ones from Sonic are good. First time I ever had one was back in 2006 when I was up there for work.

2nd place is sauerkraut with mustard.

I like to do that just to keep my carb intake down. I want more than 1 hot dog, but dont want to get all bloated feeling by eating 2 buns

Seriously? Cream cheese on a hot dog. wtf...

Thats as bad as sushi with cream cheese in it. Blahhh

Thank you! Hot dog stands in Seattle tend to put cream cheese on them, ditto w/ sushi w/ cream cheese...can't stand either.

*edit* lol ok just saw the article he linked is for a seattle style dog.

Skimmed more of this thread . . . you people put some strange crap on your hot dogs. How the hell are some of them even edible after you get done with them? I wouldn't feed some of these concoctions to my rats.

Honestly - with how bad most supermarket hot dogs are and that some people still boil it, ketchup still has a place. I do agree that the better the hotdog and if grilled, it's a shame to mask it with ketchup.

But hey - I also roll my eyes at people who ask for A1 at decent steakhouses or pour soy sauce on their rice - but there are worse food sins.
This. If a steak needs steak sauce, it's a bad steak. Steak sauces were meant to add moisture and cover up flavor of bad/dry steaks.

imho non melted thickly grated cheddar cheese adds a lot texture to a dog. I don't like my cheese melted on my dogs and thankfully nowhere around here does it. Is it messier? Sure, but it's worth it. Also putting a hot dog in a steamed bun underneath a broiler would just ruin the bun.

Disagree on the bun. I like toasted buns the only time I like steamed hotdog buns are when they're potato buns. because they're extra soft and dense.

Except when you go to French Steak Houses and it's all about the sauce. Pan sauces are the best.

What about the infamous Montreal 50 cent steamie? For those times when you just don't value your life or dignity.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_hot_dog

There's of course the famous Montreal Smoked meat. On rye bread piled high with yellow mustard. And the bagels. And of course, poutine. Though it's everywhere, you can't get good poutine outside of Quebec. Either the gravy's not quite right, or English Canadians make the sin of using shredded cheese instead of curds.

There's no food that Toronto is particularly known for. Hot dog carts are all over the place here though. No special topping style, you pick what you like. You never want to pay more than $2 for a dog because they're all the same.

The city has recently jumped on the food truck craze. Always been the chip wagons but now they've gone more upscale. Hipsters love them. They sell pretty much everything from grilled cheese to more exotic stuff.

Halifax has the famous Donair, which is like a gyro but made with beef instead of lamb. You can get them in the classic pita, or on a sub or pizza.

A good steak doesn't _need_ steak sauce. And a lobster doesn't _need_ melted butter, a burger doesn't _need_ mustard, and chicken wings don't _need_ wing sauce. Pancakes don't even _need_ syrup. I mean it's a damn crime to put sticky sweet syrup on a really good artisanal pancake.

Yeah, a lot of things don't need a lot of things, but still gonna stick about 3 lbs of this that is marinating in hot sauce and rub in a bit on the rotisserie

More Sacrilege

Normally, I would agree with this. However, I had a steak sauce at a restaurant and it was so amazing. It was like a light ginger based sauce that was just super refreshing against the char of the meat. It was so good.
