This! I hate BBQ flavored anything, especially those god awful chips. Sugar and smoke is all it is. Fuckin' Americans with sugar on everything...

Sweet and salty is a great combination. Mix in Spicy and got just about everything good in the food world. If you don't agree with that you are a commie or a terrorist, end of story.

My kid won't eat any of those 3, with or without ketchup. It's weird, actually.

Personally, I like sriracha on a hot dog. I'll do ketchup, but only specific kinds. There's some locally (Mainers love local shit, especially if you can work "foraged" into the description) bottled shit they sell here that I think is pretty good. It's tomato based, but not particularly sweet, though. Consistency is that of a chunky ketchup, but the flavors are closer to a romesco. Come to think of it, it really has nothing in common with ketchup, but it's pretty good on a hot dog. Only on a top-split bun, though.

What's wrong with offal? Sure, pig offal isn't particularly good, so just go for the 100% beef offal dogs.

same thing. the majority of BBQ sauce is ketchup with liquid smoke.

good BBQ doesn't need it, anyway. It's only used to satisfy the people that can't taste anything (they are conditioned on sugar).

When I was younger I would only eat hotdogs with Ketchup.

Now I no longer put Ketchup on my dogs but any of the following are fair game:

Brown Mustard
Various types of relish
Sauerkraut
Cooked onions
Slaw


The following are allowed but not much better than Ketchup:
Chilli
Cheese
Yellow Mustard
Peppers

I think it really depends on where you are. Yes.....bratwurst is the way to go, but not always feasible. Stadium brats aren't as good as REAL brats. If I'm at a ballgame, I'll seriously debate the chilidog vs stadium brat based on price alone.

But then there's the hot dog combo at Sam's Club. They have huge Nathan's hot dogs + a 32oz drink for like $1.78. It's the best meal you can get under $2.

The ketchup debate is a waste of time. What's more important is deciding what kind of beer to drink with the dogs or brats.

Yeah, I agree with you here. We went to a minor league game recently. We had free access to their "kennel club". Basically nicer seats and all you can eat food/beer. The brats were pretty nasty. Shouldn't even bear the name brat.
I havnt had hot dogs in years. Even with their value/$, I just can't do it.
