I put about 20 hours into it so far, and liked it alot more when I started than I do now. It is a good game, and I will probably return to it, but it is extremely grind-heavy.
You will die alot, and you will spend the first 20 days doing nearly the exact same thing. Then you'll see a new enemy, and die, and have to do it all over again. Or Winter will catch you unprepared because you haven't seen it before, and you will die. Or a bunch of other things.
However, the atmosphere and mechanics are quite unique and interesting. With health and hunger, you have a sanity meter, and if it falls low, you start seeing things, and items change from what they were to more sinister counterparts. Darkness will kill you, so fire or light is a must at night. The game is from Klei, the same people that made Mark of the Ninja, so the quality is there.
You basically gather things like 3 twigs and 2 logs to make a fire. For a permanent fire pit you need stone. Food is the major issue though, and you will spend ALOT of time picking berries, setting traps, buildings farms, cooking, and trying out recipes in a buildable crockpot.
Then winter comes, and you better have a winter hat and watch out for the winter mobs, which again, will kill you, and you'll be back picking grass again for your first fire in no time.
