I've read thousands of books from all genres, i always research things when I hear of them for the first time. I have never once come across a burma-shave reference.

It's incredibly silly to say that because you never heard of some marketing campaign that died out decades before you were born, that your horizons aren't broad enough. Tell me when you were born and i'll find lots of things that were wildly popular decades before you were born that you never heard of.
