People in this thread sure are extremely cynical, aren't you.
Yet, in a world without cops, what would you expect things to look like? I can tell you, it'd either be Nazi Germany where a SS or SA-type organization would fill the void (clearly not preferable I'm sure most agree), or it'd be Mad Max, post-apocalyptic fight-to-survive. Clearly not preferable either I'm sure all agree. Except maybe the paranoidly psychotic.
Do you have any idea as to what you're talking about? Do you know how the Nazi's rose to power? I can tell you that it had nothing to do with a lack of police enforcement lol. It's sorta the other way around.
Back on topic. Nobody is saying that we don't need law enforcement, because we most certainly do. What we are saying is that police officers are human beings. Human beings in the sense that there are good ones and bad ones. And when you consider things like how low the average police officer's salary compared to the risk involved, you would have imaging that the pickins get rather slim when recruiters are looking for 'good' men and women.
As pointed out earlier, law enforcement is often more interested in closing a case and locking up the nearest guilty looking thug rather than doing a real investigation. And of course even good police officers are very capable of making mistakes, but judges and juries tend to and always will favor a the word of a police officer over a civilian. These are the reasons why you don't talk to a police officer without a lawyer, you don't allow a police officer into your home, and you don't consent to searches without a warrant.
