Let them do their work for themselves.

I'm going to violate one of my forum rules, and will feed the troll....
You really don't understand what it's all about, do you.
We ALL know we are lending our PC resources to the project(s) of choice. That's EXACTLY what it's about.
Among the DC projects, we are helping cancer and scientific research. If the project developers did this themselves without our help, it would take years, no, decades to do the same work.
Do you really want them taking longer to possibly find a cure for cancer, or aids, or other deseases?
Is that truly a waste of PC resources?
Yes, some of the projects are more esoteric, scientific, and may not yield health benefits to mankind, but those who participate believe and/or enjoy that type of science and research.
If you feel it's a waste of your time and PC resources, fine, don't participate. But we all know exactly what we are doing with our PCs.
Not to mention all the fun we have in races, friendly competition. As a long time member of this TeAm, I can say I've learned more about PCs, networking, and scientific endeavors than I ever would have by myself. They are so supportive and helpful when it comes to technical issues. And extremely supportive when there are real life issues.
So check out the different projects, see if there is one (or more) that appeals to your sense of purpose, and try it. You might like it.
If not, that's cool, but then Off Topic might be more your suited to your pursuits.
