Here is a way you can get Doom 3 for $9.99. Go to your bank today and put $9.99 into a savings account. When they actually ship the game, you will probably have ~$60 in you account.

It can't be beat in terms of quality, even the demo is great.
UT2k4 is the greatest game ever made. If I can get something like this and Farcry for $30 each, why would I pay $50 for other comparatively mediocre games?

I play Ut2004 since the day I came out. It sucks compared to Quake 3. Complicated and stupid weapon systems. All people do on the servers is free-for-all fragging. Ut2004 demos are so boring to watch. They basically use shock rifle most of the time and avoid close-distance combat. Quake 3 is by far THE best 1v1 duel and TDM game ever. Watching Q3 demos is almost addictive. I am playing UT2004 just to fill the void before doom3.

Ugh, idiotic shock rifle is impossible to use. Do you guys just stand still when you shoot the ball then ignite it? Or is it possible to shoot the ball (secondary) move, jump strafe, etc then ignite it? I find it too difficult to use the latter method.

I've never played Quake 3 so I can't say which is better, I usually play onslaught in UT2004 and find it very entertaining, there are always people that go back and forth witht he raptors(is that what they are called) killing people, but if you get over stuff like that, the game is fun. It has no lag really on my system (xp2600, 512 pc2700, 9800pro) with everything turned up. I just started playing Painkiller and can honestly say that UT2004 is alot funner overall. But that is my opinion and of course I could be wrong.

One more thing, I've never really had a problem with everyone using the shock rifle, is it because it is kinda like a sniper rifle? but I can never seem to kill anyone with one hit and so the shock rifle seems less effective.

This is why I never buy used PC games. The used PC games business, is what's hurting sales. People buy the games, copy them, and sell them back. EB Games and Gamestop never bought back PC games in the past. They need to change their policies and stop buying back used games. I also remember paying about $59-69 for the old Ultima VII, Ultima Underworld DOS games. So the price of games, certainly has not gone up over the years. I consider $30 a bargain for today's games.

P.S. Doom I & II ruled back in the DOS days.

You do realize, that both Origin and LookingGlass Technologies, both essentially folded, right? And one of the reasons, was because they designed games that were: a) too cutting-edge for current hardware, limiting their potential customer base, and b) priced themselves at the highest-end of the PC games market, further hurting their sales. Origin Systems was eventually sold to EA, and I don't know if any other company managed to pick up the pieces of LookingGlass. I think most of their devs went to find jobs with other game companies individually, after LG folded.

What's really hurting PC games sales these days, isn't old games (which often don't even work on modern systems at all, you need a retro-PC to be able to play them), but the simple fact that the PC games market is highly over-saturated, and most of the games are hardly innovative, most are very "me too", much like modern television programming. I don't play an PC games any longer, except for a few choice FPS's at LAN parties with friends. There's really no point in it anymore for me. Once you've played one or two of them out of a genre, you've played them all.

Electronic Arts (EA), is what ruined Origin. It started with Ultima 8, Ultima Ascension, etc... Richard Garriott, the founder of Origin, left his company because of the crap that EA was pulling. EA had too much control and was rushing out games, before they were released. EA continues to ruin independent development houses today.

LOL! Me too! Actually, I'm cheaper than you. Fry's has Call of Duty for $28 this weekend-cheapest I've seen it so far. But I'll wait a few more months to get the Call of Duty bundle for $20 at some sale.

I was talking about the time before EA bought out Origin. Origin's failings in the market started waaay before U8 was ever developed or released, although they are somewhat intertwined with LookingGlass's failings too.
