when you sell the software, you legally agree to give up all rights to using it - ie, not having it playable or archived.

A software license generally allows you to have one functional copy installed on a machine at one time. If you should sell the discs you are essentially saying that you have uninstalled this copy and are transferring the license to someone else. Two copies in existence = violation of user agreement.

Sheesh.

Nice try to justify your actions. You have a license for ONE copy. Not two. You're just a cheap a$$.

The fact that you ask that very question is proof that you couldn't possibly understand the answer.
But anyway, you are keeping a copy when selling the game. But when you sell it you are transferring the license so YOU do not NOT retain a license. You have a copy without a license. The purchaser is taking over the license you originally bought. So effectively you are using a pirate copy after selling your license.

Oh, OK. I understand now. I just thought it was more of a grey area.

An observation: you people on this forum are way too sensitive. It's like you all just sit around waiting to bust peoples balls. Relax.

yet I'm sure some of them have some piece of software somewhere that might (theoretically of course) not have a legitimate license.

From what I understand, Doom III's multiplayer is going to be hashed out and suck badly.

Hello, Usenet and the lovely, lovely binaries groups.

I won't even feel guilty, since id has pretty much said that they don't give a sh*t if D3 tanks, they'll make a mint off the engine anyway.

You guys will pay $39/$49 every year for UT200X but not $60 for Doom3? Activision always prices their games higher, but IMO Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, RTCW, etc are worth it. I normally wait for most games to drop in price to around $29, but Doom3, Duke Nuken Forever and HL2 will probably worth the price. Not $80 like someone else said, but these games only come around once and great while. I guess if you didn't play these games when they came first came out you may not be impressed.

An observation: you are trolling these forums saying controversial things in hoping to get a rise. It's like you are copying a million noobs before you that did the same thing. Leave.

Observation: You just walked in here ASKING for us to bust your balls. So relax... This won't hurt a bit! *pulls out castration tools* You can't come in here suggesting something that is completely illegal and expect that we'll greet you with a nice warm, "Welcome to AnandTech!". All of these discussions had here, almost all of which contain no flaming or the likes, are just small talk while we wait here to bust your balls. One last thing: You'll most likely be banned as soon as the Admin see's your illegal suggestion! Have a nice summer!

Waste my entire lifetime, waiting for something, that will never arrive? I really don't think that would be "worth the price", sorry.

PS. Emphasis of the original quote added by me for effect.

I really can't believe such a big stink is being made about this. People talk about illegal and grey area stuff on here all the time and no one cares because they use innuendo and subtle hints, then I suggest something I honestly thought was no big deal and everyone hates me. It's not like I suggested you download it or something that's obviously illegal. I had a lapse in judgement so give me a break. I'm sorry I offended you all so much. You'd think I pissed on the flag or something. I'm also not a "noob" either. I've been coming to this forum for years(it seems like atleast 98-99?).

I paid $30 for UT2k4 (special edition I might ad), which was a new game to me (I didn't buy 2k3).

After playing this, there is no way I am paying over $30 for a game again.

I can't decide if you are complimenting the game or not, IMO Ut2004 has done everything right, it runs perfect with all settings maxed on a 9800pro, but also runs on my laptop with shared memory acceptably with all settings on low, it has a good crowd, great graphics, assortment of games and a built in mp3 player(I wish other games would do this) Oh, and it loads acceptably fast for a multiplayer game. It can't be beat in terms of quality, even the demo is great.

I will probably buy it once it comes down but not now. They would sell many many more copies if they started the price at 39.99 like UT2k4, far cry, and BF Vietnam did.

Although I bought MS Flight Simulator 2004 at Fry's last week for $20, BB has it on the shelf for $54.99 but with a $20 off sticker. Were people ever actually paying $55 for this?

I bought UT2004 for $30 when it first came out. The special edition to be precise. The game is worth $50 in my opinion. Runs great as well.

When it first came out last year it was $49.99 on the shelf at my local Staples and they sold out their stock a few times.

I am surprised at all the moralilty here. A good portion of people here have some kind of illegal software sitting around. I bet everyone takes advantage of DVD writer deals so they could back up their personal collection of dvds. Yeah, right. So what if he copies the game and sells it on ebay. At least he actually purchases it.

Agreed, good game. Pisses me off playing multiplayer sometimes but still good game. It also lags systems no matter how fast your computer is *sigh* 2.4 ghz, latest ati card, I still need to upgrade to 1 gig of ram I suppose...

UT2k4 is the greatest game ever made. If I can get something like this and Farcry for $30 each, why would I pay $50 for other comparatively mediocre games?
