Well, looks like i jumped the gun on this game. I didn't even get the the shooting parts and it hurt my eyes from bad frame rate. Guess i'll have to wait for my 9700np to play it . Also, what is the lowest card (proformance wise) that anyone has gotten playable frame rates on 800x600? Thanks!

my comp:
p4 2.0 ghz
geforce3 ti200
256mb pc2700, 512mb pc2100
SB live! value

you should be able to still run it. You may have to turn down the eyecandy. Have you tried running it at 640x480 and low settings? Have you updated your drivers?

yes, yes, and yes. It runs, it just isn't playable. Running around it is so choppy. I couldn't imagine once i start shooting zombies. Plus it is a major eye sore.

I get like 2 SPF (Seconds Per Frame) on my ATI Radeon 7500 64meg DDR running Catalyst 4.7. The game is at 640x480 lowest settings, drivers at lowest settings, and still unplayable.

Running:
Athlon XP Barton 2800+
512 Kingston PC400
ATI Radeon 7500 64meg AGP 4x

I think that 9800pro is about the minimum. Can you buy it now ? (I mean is it actually in stock anywhere)

Not really. I peg the Radeon9800 in the middle of the pack.

Yep. 9800 pro mixed with a good system will play the game at 1024x768 on high detail. Pretty middle of the pack to me.

If a GF4MX can run it, a GF3 should be able to run it without much issue at all. Maybe you need to turn down some more options that you haven't found yet, Cawchy.

EDIT: And make sure you're running it at 640x480.

640x480 on low detail really doesn't look bad. Looks very nice on my bro's comp with those settings. Better than everything out there except FarCry on high quality.

I'll keep looking for more settings, and i am sure that it is on 640x480.

The weird part is that even just the UI is slow as hell. It takes forever just to move the mouse from one spot to another. And with the lowest settings it even makes it difficult to read text on the screen.

There really has to be something else to it. The game shouldnt run this bad on my system, even at the lowest settings. Could there be something like ATI Truform trying to run? My card doesn't support it in hardware, so the CPU would be doing all the work. this happend on my old PII 400 in HL, where Truform was enabled by default, and the game ran like a hog. Disabling it brought the FPS back up to around 60..

I wonder when/where I will be able to find a full list of config options. The default config file is very lacking.

hey, I just posted a new topic for "sweet spots" on Doom 3, so whoever is playing, if you could go post your specs and your settings to try and help all that are going to buy it in the next few days that would be awesome...

linkage

I have a 9800pro and have it at 1280x1024 with settings on medium and it is running pretty smooth.

my 9700pro, 512MB pc2700, xp2800 can run it in high 1024x768, except when there's a lot going on, it'll jump just a tad. i just play it on 800x600 high usually. still looks damn good even on that, and i get 0 noticable slowdown.

people seem to have a bizarre idea of what's playable or not. with the settings i have D3 at, the "timedemo demo1" runs anywhere between 43 to 45fps. but it's hardly playable. who cares how smooth it is when i'm running down a hallway with no monsters or NPCs in view. the moment I get up close and personal with a zombie and shotgun him to the head (happens every 30s in this game) the framerate becomes a slideshow.

i like how all the people who say the game runs fine on their Ti4200's have P4's running at 3500mhz and the like. :/
yup, that's the most common combination ain't it? lol.

You what is funny? I am building a new computer this week but the video card wont ship until the 10th. So that means until the 6800GT ships I am going to be using a Ti200 lololol

I cant wait to see the power of my new machine

Just done a comparison on mine and my brothers computers:

Mine:
Athlon XP 2400
Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB
768MB RAM

My Bro's:
Athlon XP 3200
Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB
1GB RAM (Dual Channel)

And it has to be said, forget the extra processing power, this things just eates away at the graphics card (for this comparison anyway). Just like Quake3 and most other FPS's, in Doom3 there are some things you just can't do as good on the slower machine that you can on the faster machine, especially when you are fighting something.

As for how it looks, I suppose it looks alright on the lower detail settings on the slower DX8 cards, however once you see the quality on something faster, you can then easily start to pick apart the lower quality graphics output.

Edit:
As for the Radeon 9000, yeah it is playable at 640x480, but I think that looks a bit poor to be honest, and once it goes to 800x600 it is on the verge of being playable, but just isn't. To be honest, I can't see anyone with a GF4MX really being able to enjoy the game.
