Normally my parents don't take a big interest in my gaming life, but, being 18 and living at home, they do glance in my room from time to time to see what's holding my attention at the moment. Of course, yesterday was "da big day" the final official release of Doom 3. Needless to say - I got it. Friends were over to check out the latest and greatest and (after about an hour of play as it was already night when I got it) we parted ways and went to bed. Or I would have went to bed, but it was then that my parents walked in and said they didn't want this game in their house... Wait, you want me to sell Doom 3 after only playin' an hour of it?
The general break down of it all was that they felt (because the storyline revolves around the unleashing of Hell) that Doom 3 was just another evil tool to sway believers. Now, I'm not hear to preach, but my faith is definitely important. So, if my parents come about saying something's evil and I should steer clear, I will at least hear them out and consider their perspective, but I'm having a hard time agreeing with 'em at all. Yes, the "bad guys" in Doom 3 are pretty evil (they came straight from Hell), but the game doesn't promote being like those guys, it puts a shotgun in your hand and asks yah kindly to send 'em back... Yeah, the game's pretty dark, does that make it evil? Night time is pretty dark... don't seem to evil to me...
Anyhow, I guess I was just curious on the opinions others (especially those of the faith, but everyone in general as well) have regarding Doom 3 (and the alike) in relation to the whole Good/Evil thing. Anyone care to take a stab? Thanks.
