... as the atheists cram their beliefs down people's throats, shouting all the while, "stop cramming your beliefs down my throat."

Humans are not normally known for logic.

How dare I say anything against Doom3. Funny thing is, I never even said it for any religious reason. I said it was full of violence, gore and stuff there purely to scare you with its evilness - and for that reason it won't be permitted in my house.

The response? Because I don't like Doom3; my kids need psychotherapists, we're all screwed in the head and I'm a religious "whacko" as you'd say.

I'd say the extreme and irrational response is more on YOUR side than on mine, or anyone who objects to Doom3's content.

Well, day 7 and one official week of Doom 3 later without so much as a peep on the subject from my parents...

Actually, and completely unrelated to my parents request, I do think I'll be selling Doom 3. I'm at the end of the game (Caverns 2) and should easily finish it tomorrow. After that, I don't really see any reason to play through it again as it does get rather tedious during the mid portions (stretched too thin...). Bundle that with a low fear tolerance and you have one great reason to sell. I have a friend who's just getting back from Cali and he really wants my copy - boom, easy move, heh...

Looking back on the game (though, admittedly, I haven't seen the very end) it's my opinion that there are a good share of things that may not be terribly wholesome in the game. There are also a fair quantity of "evil" things in the game (they came from Hell, whaddya expect?). But I can't bring myself to say the game itself is in any way "evil". It's an amusing distraction from the passing time and an enjoyable way to relax for a while before work... nothing more.

I personally can't wait to see the games that the Doom 3 engine will bring about. One thing Doom 3 has helped me realize, however, is that graphics can so often take a second seat to gameplay. I, like most anyone, spent the first 15-30 minutes of this game gawking in absolute amazement at what id had accomplished - this feeling quickly passed. After you've taken a wee bit to get used to how the game looks, you find it really doesn't matter. What matters more is the poor AI or the repetitive gameplay... In fact, I can recall many occassions where I would force myself to keep playing just because I would rather play a game that looks that good than one that doesn't, despite the fact I was getting awfully sick of crawling around in the dark (back to Hell with those Baby/Fly things, says I)... Kinda disappointing, really...

Anywho, nobody came here to read my review of Doom 3, so I'll shut me yap at this point...

One last thing I do want to comment on, however, is bluemax's comment about atheists:

Please know that I have many atheist friends and try hard to view the world through the eyes of a neutral, third party, but I must say that is an ironic (yet seemingly true) observation. How more often do you find atheists trying to make others feel bad about what they believe than you find Christians sharing God's message? Isn't it amusing that atheists seem to be more dedicated than any other to the furthering of their religion?

Just my take on things...

- Chaz

P.S. "Isn't it amusing that atheists seem to be more dedicated than any other to the furthering of their religion?" Someone oughta sig that... mine's too full, heh...

Your sig is too big period.

And yes, atheism is one of the most vocal religions.

Atheism is only most vocal on some random internet forums. It is far from the most vocal in real life. I've never seen an atheist knocking on my door asking me to stop believing in god. I've never seen an atheist commercial. I've never seen actors thank atheism. *shrug*

In other words... most vocal my ass

True. I am be an atheist, but I don't go around telling other people to shut the hell up about their wrong beliefs or that someone will punish them for not listening to me (although I'd like to :evil.

I've never had an xian knock on my door trying to convert me. So what does that prove? Nothing.

I had a Jedi Knight come to my door, but he said they were all out of lightsabers. Conversation stopped right then and there.

-Xionide

You keep asking me that. Do you want attention or something? If so make a whole new thread about it so everyone can see. Obviously you know I wasn't banned since this is the 5th time you've asked me that.

I thought you were too...

I think I disagree. When I was an atheist I wasn't particularly vocal about it. I kinda kept it to myself and tried not to force my beliefs on anyone. I always viewed religion as a positive thing even when I didn't buy into it.

wow, this thread got large in a hurry. I was gonna post when there were 5-6 replies, but thought it best not to say anything. But, it seems everyone was cool about it.
I'd say it's about "Presentation", id software is simply showing it better than others. Lets take for example the really popular "Super Mario World" games. Don't know about you, but Bowser doesn't resemble most people I know. Kinda looks like some kind of Demon/Devil character.
Mario shoots Fireballs at bad guys, jumps on their heads and "kills" them. But I know many "Parents" the are/were hooked on this. I'm 36, my in-laws, husband and wife were hooked on them all (1st through last (SNES - Cube)). Myself with them, Catholics.

I don't really play much single player games anymore, but I'm playing doom3 as it doesn't give much choice at this point. But I really don't see a difference in Mario fighting Bowser vs Marine fighting Hell. To get to Bowser, I remember getting through "Fire" levels, and killing bad guys with fireballs. They (at least looks to me) try to make it look like Mario is in Hell fighting Bowser. id software has done the same, except it "looks" more real, as they are better at making graphics look more real.
Don't sell it just yet, QuakeCon is this weekend. You'll hear about what can and cannot be done for Mods. I still have faith there will be some great multi-player games to be had with doom3.

I have 2 kids myself (9 and 5), I find it fantastic yours parents take the time to look in on your interests and your well being. But I do not believe in "games" changing who people are.
good luck in whatever you choose.
