And so begins the fall of the wonderful game machine back into the land of the ordinary /sniff

She served me well for nearly 18 months now. I suppose it is time to retire her to workstation durty and build a new game machine.

Let the benchmarking squables begin!!

I hope the game comes with some pretty decent benchmarking tools. maybe a little more comprehensive then Quake3.. We've been looking for a more up-to-date and capable STANDARD 3D benchmark tool since Quake3..

Id doesn't want to waste money making a DVD version, but wants us to shell out friggin 60 dollars. They suck. Props to Epic and Ubisoft.

I think nvidia based video cards will perform best with doom3 while ati based video cards will perform better with half life 2. Ofcourse doom3 is near to being released and half life 2 is nowhere to be seen so atleast nvidia have until *maybe* next year to optimise their drivers for half life 2.

Memory: 256 MB
Price: $499.99
*BackOrdered*

If it was that easy, people wouldn't be complaining.

*Edit*
Didn't see the "6800GT Ultra." Only the Ultra part.

Todd is also talking about a Doom movie too. They all ready made a script for it! They just need a Film studio to support it.

HomeLAN has gotten a response from id Software's Todd Hollenshead on the current status of the Doom 3 movie rights, contradicting published reports that Universal now has the rights to make the FPS based film:

The movie rights have reverted to id, as Warner's option period expired. However, we remain a "free agent" at this time and multiple studios are interested in the project. The team of John Wells (ER, et. al.) and Lorenzo DiBonaventura (The Matrix, et. al.) that has been working on the project for over a year will remain affiliated with the DOOM movie. The studio question at this point primarily involves the financing..

But considering they may have "The Rock" play as the marine, it won't be much of a horror sci-fi flick.

lol. I remember last year everybody was fighting over which video card it would run under better. No one wanted an FX because its shader performance. And everybody needed a 9700p or 9800p (Fx5900 equiv). Now everybody must at least have a x800 or 6800.

Funny to say the least.
But I can't criticize. I'm feeling itchy (regardless of understanding the marketing tricks) to swap my 9800pro for a GT.
I have a feeling that most of these games will perform just fine in my 9800pro,but always this period of the year(when new cores are released) the "wild" feeling shadows my logic.

don't do it wait til the fall when most of the high-end games are out and you can actually find the next gen cards on the self.

I saw a X800 PRO for 459.00 (3 on shelf)
Nvidia 6000 NU for 339.00

No way I'm paying those prices, I'll wait.

I know. The only reason I'm thinking of doing this right know is that the price of my card will most likely fall much more proportionally to the price of the GT in the future. I leave in Greece and prices here will remain high for the GT(which not a single card is here yet!!) and on the other hand the price of my 9800pro will fall much more.
I will wait to see the price of the GT when it will be available here and then I'll decide.
