Doom 3 On xbox

i have a rig that according to hard ocp should play doom3 at 800x600 with medium quality (9500pro)

i have always been a playstation man, and have passed the xbox up as a big ugly console with not very many good games, however i am becoming more and more aware of the xbox's visual quality, alot of PS2 games are very jaggy and look very grainy..the same games on xbox look really slick

i was intending on building an a64 rig to play future games like HL2 and D3, but i then started thinkin bout gettin an xbox, as there are a few games i really want....colin mcrea 2005, rallysport challenge 2, halo 2, burnout 3, project gotham,

i also figured as i am goin to uni this year, that an xbox would very much be a better bet, i am gettin a lap top (im not buying tho) but figure that an xbox would be pretty neat to have to play mulitplayer againts mates

doom 3 is also on xbox which is pushing me even further into jus forgeting bout the new rig, but what can i expect from it? can find much bout d3 on xbox....im doubting that it will be as good as the pc version.....ill miss my keyboard an mouse!!!

Doom 3 on Xbox is rumored to be (a lot) worse than the PC version.

I'd wait for some reviews of the Xbox version of D3 before grabbing it.
It might look better on your current PC than on an Xbox.

hmmm thanks for that,

well i jus whipped out the clac....haha something ive not done since June! (A level maths ) and ive worked out that with my current jobs, i should have around £700-800, which should get me started nicely on a A64 rig, that is if the i get the tax forms sorted so that the council dont tax me everytime i get paid. and then by the end of september before i got to uni i should have another 300-400 so maybe i can finish off the rig and then see bout xbox.......simply cannot wait for BURNOUT 3 man it looks so good,

Your 9500 Pro class system will look way better than xbox.
Only system that an xbox would beat is a gf4mx, and even still the computer will have higher res.

Anyway back to the topic, with your system as someone stated it will definately look better than the Xbox version. Except that if you want a console why not wait for XBOX2 that will have the R500 core and your money will definately have better value?

Agreed, but putting down consoles here generally leads to flamewars. One thing pretty much everyone can agree on though is that you need a kb/mouse to properly play FPSs.

I'm not putting down consoles in any case. But I think it's pointless when someone compares a console with a mediocre->high end pc in graphical terms to say at least.

You guys, FPS on consoles, if done wrong suck, but if done right rock.

Goldeneye and perfect dark were awesome console fps. Halo was an awesome one. Doom 3 on xbox has been in the works longer then halo on xbox, so expect some nice quality. The xbox version will not look THAT far worse. Here are some xbox doom3 picks.

That looks awesome by todays standards. Not to mention, doom 3 on xbox will have ONLY broadband users, no chance of some 56k guy joining your server, it will have online coop throught the single player campaign. And it wont require some expensive pc to run well.

Compare your card to a GF3ti500 and you'll have a pretty good idea of how your computer compares to an Xbox.

Granted, the Xbox is a console so it *will* run faster than an equivalent computer, but the 9500 is in a completely different league. You will have all of the effects that a DX9 card is capable of producing, compared to DX8 on the Xbox (I know we're talking about OpenGL, but the hardware limitations are the same).

Keyboard and mouse kick ass in FPS, too.

I own a high end PC, an Xbox, and a PS2... And the fact of the matter is that my Xbox gets the vast majority of my gaming time.
Yes, FPS's are better on the PC. However, there are a number of other genres that are superior on the console.

Who said it was? Well, Tabb and Insomniak did, but...anyway.

I agree with you, however a few games play well across different platforms. Madden 2004, Rallisport, NBA Live, probably others, but I would much rather play a sports game or racing game on a console. Unfortunately, I don't have one, so I make do.

Doom 3 on XBOX will look good. If somebody has seen screens of chronicles of riddick you know what I talk about.
It will support multiplayer, even more it will support Co op.

But on PC it will look much better have more options for the multiplayer.
I don't like the XBOX live since I never have a good connection with it. With my PC it always flys. The controls you get used to, but a keyboard mouse setup is prefered.

On the other hand an xbox costs only 199. wich is very cheap compared to PC components.

It will probably look the same on your pc as an an XBOX. Stay with the PC version, thats cheaper.

Doom 3 is just the beginning. Off of doom 3 will come many more interesting fps games for pc that you will want to play. I say stick with pc for the future of fps games. The xbox is almost dead, but a new gaming pc will play many more future games you are sure to be interested in, and play them better.

OK, those ARE Xbox doom 3 screens period. Ever heard of an image being enlarged? It will look better on tv as there will be less jaggies and such because a tv wont show them up so much.

halo on xbox is superior to halo pc for a number of reasons. You dont need a high end pc just to look AS good as xbox,has coop, split screen, and onliner play via xbc. Yea it dont have the fuel rod gun or flamethrower, but mose people dont use them anyway.

That is incorrect. Enlarging an image will actually in some cases make the image distort or cause interpolation. Stretching a picture to fit accross a TV is different then maxiumizing resolution.

Interpolation Basics

In either case, the visual effects on the X-Box will still be impressive.
