Doom 3, Quake 4, F.E.A.R, to me Day of Defeat Source looks better

I don't know how many of you are actually playing DOD:S, but let me tell you, the graphics and the HDR lighting are incredilbe. I can't believe how well it runs on my rig, maxed out 1280*1024, 4aa, 8Af.

The gameplay is amazing, it takes a while to learn the maps, but OMG once you do it destroys everything on the market. I was really excited about F.E.A.R but I can't seem to get enough of DOD right now.

Here a few pics, look at how great the textures and graphics look... HDR is here to say, and it makes a huge difference. Can't imagine playing without it anymore.

Yeah I don't agree about the HDR but my system isn't fast enough for it anyway, but yeah DoD:S is the bomb.

I think the graphics and improved models and animations are definitely worth it. CS:S looks tons better than CS to me. I don't think DoD:S looks quite as good to DoD as CS:S to CS but it is VERY nice. I play a ridiculous amount lately. I'm addicted. Alll I think about all day in class is sniping out peeps. Lol j/k...

It looks better to me but thats probably because I have a Radeon X800 Pro. If it plays at 30 or less FPS, its not good enough.

And if I have to take away all the eye-candy to play it, then it dont matter much.

Wow I wish my DoD:S looked like that. I run @ 1024x768, options on high, no HDR, af/aa.

Still a great game though.

I can play any game out right now at max settings (including ones yet to come out) and the graphics for F.E.A.R. are unparalleled. I don't know about the gameplay for day of defeat: source, but I know that I would place F.E.A.R. above almost all games (except for, for example, Half-Life 2).

I agree with the OP. I love the HDR now. At first, I didn't like it... I thought it made a lot of things look over-exposed. Eventually, I got used to it, and now I find myself wishing for HDR maps in CS:S.

I'm pretty addicted to DoD:S, too. I get frustrated when I die in a CS:S map and have to spectate until the end of the round before I get to play again. With DoD:S, you're runnin' and gunnin' again in no time.

And shovel kills rule, BTW. I love sneaking up behind a sniper and listening to him wail as I crack his spine with my rusty old spade. :evil:

Hell ya. But a lot of the so called "veterans" don't like the changes. As for me I haven't played enough of the original DOD to make a comparison.

I played DOD quite a bit, then got DOD:S. I have to say, in some ways the game is much better, in others it is not. Weapons have been changed around a bit too much in my opinion (the first rifle for the German side used to kick ass, now it sucks). Also, the maps are completely altered, sometimes to the point of being very unbalanced.

Agreed, aside from Q4, (havent played) DOD-S is heads above FEAR, Doom, anything really. People who disagree IMO in large part just cant turn the visuals up.

It definetly competes with Quake4 and FEAR, but I don't think we should be saying which is better than the others. Really, they're all designed for different types of visuals. DOD:S is based on an engine that looks for lighting realism. FEAR looks for visual intensity with tons of particles and high contrast. Quake4 is heavy on the bump-mapping and stencil shadows for it's appeal.

Anyway, as for gameplay I have so far enjoyed both FEAR and DOD:S. I'm REALLY into DOD:S right now, though. While there are a few disadvantages to the Source version compared to the original, on the whole it is quite superior. It's like DOD, but just smoother. I like the balance on the weapons and they all feel right to me even despite their changes. The bazooka class is useful and can be quite fun on some maps. Just good multiplayer gameplay regardless of graphics. which can be downright beautiful.

Having Played every game mentioned here cept Q4 (probably pick that up after christmas) I can say right now DOD:S is fun, CS:S is loads of Fun, Doom3 was annoying, but F.E.A.R. is second to HL2 in story (ahead of the original HL) and is top dog in graphics. I played the COD2 demo and I still have to say Fear out shines, them all. COD2 has decent AI but they are to reactionary, Fear those guys are sometimes more agressive then you.

DOOM 3 , QUAKE 4 and FEAR look good but no game coming out this year will be able to beat Elderscroll 4 Graphic. Now everything in that game looks awesome. IF you seen the Forest gameplay video you would know that looks f##$#ing amazing. Anyways every things suck compared to elderscroll. Elderscroll 4 can be compared to Unreal 3.0 engine graphic.
