Ugh they lost the thread. You want to do medieval, reboot Quake you idiots!

Would absolutely love a game that brought the Lovecraftian and Strogg storylines together but ehh Doom is the "new" hotness.

Doom is Mars/Hell, but I feel corporate stank all over this...

So I like don't get the theme... It's medevil except here's a shotgun (which I mean I get it's Doom... but still) and all those random high tech armor looking stuff? Color me confused. Also yaya, I'm asking for a while lot for a Doom story line to make any real sense.

No, you reboot Heretic/Hexen/Hexen II, not Quake for medieval (which I guess at the end did use a modified Quake engine, however the first 2 used the DOOM engine). I am guessing intellectual property issues. Id Software was the publisher I think of these, but the developer was Raven Software.

1st You have to read story excerpts from Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal in the game to understand the lore and story of the doom history.

2nd its a fantasy and science fiction.

I know the lore, but figured when it was midevil he was hacking demons with swords or axes, or a fucking flail, not shotgunning them.

-Also Hexen is basically a dead IP too. Quake is right there with it pretty much.

Figure the only reason this is a Doom game is because the Doom name is hot right now.

This is not the reaction i was expecting. Frankly i don't really care about whatever sprites or textures are being used for a game, what i care about is the gameplay, which the previous Doom(s) have had in abundance; ergo, i will be playing this.

Waiting for Doom Eternal's complete edition to drop to $10 before I bite. Heard way too much conflicting stuff about the platforming elements of gameplay to buy for more than that.

I absolutely adored 2016, but it sounds like eternal (and now dark ages) have a different but not universally better combat forward gameplay loop.

I'll buy it because I'm a sucker for the environment and had a blast playing both.

I think it looks awesome, will play. I didn’t get far in Eternal because of the annoying platforming but maybe I should give it another go.

I feel like everyone is REALLY overstating how much, or annoying platforming is in Eternal.

It's mainly confined to traversing between arenas which don't even take longer than a 1 minute on average at most.

Anyways, I just re-launched Doom Eternal again in over a year to continue through the DLC, and wow was it a slap in the face, need to shake of the FPS rust.

I really liked both 2016 and Eternal, but they are quite different gameplay wise, 2016 is much closer to the old games. I'll pick this up at some point after it's been out for a while.

I disagree. I threw in the towel on Eternal because of the stupid monkey bars. Combat was okay once your get to it but the platforming ruined the game. I just killed a bajillion monsters and then fell in the f'in' lava, again.

I really enjoyed Quake 4 back in the day. I wish there was a new one. It could be awesome.

I have Quake 4 in my Steam library and I have the hi-res texture package for it. It makes the game look even better.

I completed Doom Eternal and there is a ton of platforming. Way too much platforming. The game is still a lot of fun and looks great.

The secrets are a bear to find due to how they are hidden.

So, I read about this a few days ago elsewhere and was mildly interested simply for the setting and to see how it would play out, but I just read that Mick Gordon wouldn't be doing the music for this game due to the legal issues he had with the past with Marty Stratton (of ID Software) and not having Mick do the music for Doom feels like if Bethesda removed the combat from their next Elder Scrolls game. I'm sure the music will be good as the lead audio designer (Chad Mossholder) did a good job with Eternal but I haven't read enough about Dark Ages to know whether or not Chad will be working on this new iteration. To be honest, this was one hell of a rabbit hole and it has kinda soured me a bit on the Doom franchise as a whole - mainly because I am severely biased against corporate CEOs who are more than happy to screw over the workers if it means they'll see a larger bonus or slightly larger profit margins. Plus Marty didn't seem to care at all that his lies were the direct cause of people sending death threats to Mick Gordon and his family.

For anyone interested in the drama, Check out ID Software Studio Director's "Open Letter of complete bullshit" to the Reddit community. Everything read there should be taken with a massive grain of salt because that just sets the tone for the next link below.
If you made it to the end of that Reddit post, you definitely need to read Mick Gordon's full statement in response to the Reddit post above. Also, set aside some time to read through because when he says it's a "full statement", he ain't lying. I consider myself to be a fairly fast reader and it still took me over 30 minutes to read his statement but it's definitely worth the read as a decent insight as to the shady nature of how many of these CEOs, presidents, directors, etc. operate these days.

It's very true. People on the board get there by being psychopaths and then they love hearing about the progress from a fellow psychopath so they nominate CEO/COO psychopaths.

Notice how Marty adds basically nothing to the conversation. Lousy talker. Also notice his body language. Not comfortable being there and seems tense. The other guy is totally relaxed and laid back.

To be honest it might be better if Mick wasn't involved in another Doom soundtrack regardless. He set the bar so high it wont live up to expectations.

The guy released iconic tracks in TWO consecutive soundtracks. That just doesn't happen in the music industry, very rare.

From what I understand the same guys who did the DLC soundtrack are working on this game.

Got to the part where Mick wasn't paid for 8 months despite working like crazy and then again wasn't paid for 11 months. I can attest that this is a psychopath's strategy when making people work for them. They will delay payments because they think paying on time will make the worker complacent and reduce the quality of work. Holding the payments somehow makes them work harder. They will also try to squeeze as much out of the poor worker as possible, often making them do two man or three man jobs for the cost of a one man job. They think they are being very smart by being exploitative and obviously gloat about it with their superiors. It's a totally accepted behavior in corporate circles.
