I watched Doom and thought it was good. I mean when you go to a movie like this you don't expect an intellectualy stimulating plot or an oscar-worth story. So if you didn't like it because of the lack of involving story and drama, then you shouldn't have seen it in the first place!
The movie turned out to be better than I expected actually; it does have some twists and the action is nice and believable. The FPS scene was incredible.
Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Reading comprehension...... is it taught in school at all anymore?

the video game that started the movement that made video cards such a major factor

id had mild success with Wolfenstein3D, DooM is the title that was a major hit for them and ended up driving the funding for the development of Quake. Without DooM, there was no Quake. DooM popularized first person shooters- it is the game that started the movement that made video cards such a major factor.

Looks like you excelled in Attitude 101.

I can't imagine wasting hard-earned money on such drek. IMHO, Sideways was a great movie and Batman Begins and Revenge of the Sith were good movies. "Doom" strikes me as nothing more than contrived garbage. Plot? Theme? Oh, that's right, it's just a mindless action movie aimed at teenagers and pre-teens.

Which one are you? Siskel? or Ebert?

siskel died a few years ago

I like mindless action games aimed at teenagers and pre-teens. Especially the Sci-Fi ones. But I hate theatres and will wait to rent the dvd. Wanna how closely it follows the game. Hehe, better not be two hrs in a tight dimly lit corrider.

BTW: I think Batman Sucks!

EDIT: What gfx card do I need in my TV to watch the dvd at 60 fps?

Actually, that's about how it is. Generally speaking, I didn't care for the movie much, but it absolutely nailed the "Doom environment". Also the effects were pretty nice across the board. The first-person sequence was interesting as well, but I imagine it made some people a little motion sick, a-la Blair Witch.

Blah. I don't see movies like Doom in the theatres. I rent them or let someone else rent them. The only thing they're good for is having a good laugh at just how bad they are.

If anyone saw Alone in the Dark in theatres, then I feel very bad for you. A couple buddies of mine like to rent movies like that simply to laugh at just how terrible they are. "Some doors are meant to be closed."

The Rock and Karl Urban means that the camp factor of Doom will be through the roof; unfortunately, the plot is in the other direction .

not that I'm not interested, but why is this in the video forum?

A new movie which will be headed for video in a few months based the video game that started the movement that made video cards such a major factor? I don't know why that would be in video.

I don't think Doom is the game that made "video cards such a major factor". It had been always rendered in software mode (Unless you count the unofficial mods)

That game was Quake when Voodoo came out.

yes, qlquake is what started it all...

Yup. I first played Doom in 1996 and enjoyed it. My fondest memory of the development of FPS games would have to be when I first saw Quake. It was about 1:00 am and a friend of mine was in a dark room in one of the grad students offices and I was blown away by what I saw on the screen.

They sacrificed the story of DOOM to do what....again? It's not even Doom.
