Doom3 crashing...

Since ID doesn't seem to have any online support available for Doom3 yet...

I've had the game 24 hours now, and it has crashed 5 or 6 times while running. I have a 2.66ghz P4 Dell 4550, with 768 meg of memory and a Radeon 9700TX video card.

It crashes with no error message - the game just closes out occasionally...

It SEEMS like a resource issue - like I'm running out of memory or something. But I don't know how that could be, given I have double the minimum requirements for the game...

I'm only running 800x600 as well - man this game is a pig...

Thanks for the help !

same thing here. I quick save often. It does seem like there is a memory leak somewhere.

Game runs without flaw on my desktop but will crash on my laptop. So far any of the drivers I've used work with my Radeon 8500 but none of the ones I've tried work on my mobile 9600 - the game recommends the newest drivers but my laptop manufacturer hasn't produced anything new in months, even the hack to get regualr drivers to work on the laptop do no good, the game will still crash after a few minutes of a play. My laptop runs the game beautiful, but my desktop is rather restricted (can get very choppy @ 800x600 with medium detail with intense action so I've had to back it down, its incredible how great the game still looks and plays at low resolution and detail)

i know this isn't an acceptable solution for most gamers but try this:

turn off your sound (run dxdiag and under the "sound" tab, turn the slider all the way down). I've been having this problem too and i tried it without the sound and it didn't crash on me. still.. i'm not about to play it without sound but maybe it'll help some people find a real solution

Actually, for the record, mine seems to have gotten stable. I updated to the latest catalyst drivers for my 9700, and also turned off some of the advanced video features - bump mapping, etc.

At the same time, I bumped the cache from 20 meg to 128 meg.

Those three things combined to make it much more stable for me. I'm not sure which of the three actually did it - I would guess updating to the latest drivers for the Radeon offhand...

I had Catalyst 4.6 and crashed, samething with 4.7. Found the beat 4.8's and all is good. There is 4.9 too if you want to give that a whirl

where did you find 4.8? I can only find 4.7 and 4.9 beta. 4.9 beta works well for doom but crashes other games.

Same here. It randomly CTD's. I doubt it's a overclocking problem because I've played it fine so far until today. The only changes I made was to change the imagemax cache to 128 instead of 20. I doubt that's the problem either. I think it could be a bug and hopefully a patch would fix it. In the meantime, I save constantly anyways so it really doesnt do anything to me just kills the pace of action.
