Doom3...ghosts of mars ripoff?

ok, now the story of D3 as portrayed in the E3 Doom3 demo seems to have
a little too much in common with John Carpenter's excellent Ghosts of Mars movie.
ie.
humans colonize mars, start digging, release ancient spirits, spirits inhabit people, possessed people kill.

Not such a big deal, but can't Id come up with something a little more original?

edit:just realized doom takes place on mars too....where have I been?

it seems so. thats what i thought when the demo started and since i just watched that movie it was fresh in my mind.

Hm. There's a similarity but if you're pointing fingers I'd say it's the other way around. Carpenter ripped off the original doom.

That was a really really dumb movie.

Yeah, remember people, DooM 3 is a remake of DooM 1. DooM 1 was out before Ghosts of Mars, IIRC.

Not to mention the original Doom (which D3 is a remake of, as stated above) is nearly ten years the senior of Ghosts of Mars.

Wasn't Doom's a orginal storyline hell on earth? The movie sucked anyway, as long as the game is better. Then I don't care!

Doom3 is a re-telling/re-make of Doom1. Doom1 was out before the film you mentioned.
And for a start, dooms got sod all to do with digging up spirits.
In Doom, a "Accident" when performing an experiment opens the gates of hell.
So the film you mentioned is a rip off of doom, and then to differentiate it slightly, they changed it so it wasnt an experiment, but some people digging things up.
Facts people. Use them.

The Original Doom was on Mars.
Hell on Earth was Doom2.

yea, i realized after the post (edit) that doom was on mars, and yes I know that was well before the movie.

sorry the post remained. the movie rocked though. i love the screaming marilyn manson guy. they ought to put
something like him as the boss of doom 3.

Most all movies are terrible, from what I saw from the previews Ghosts of Mars if of the worst sorts and definately not worth going to the theater to see nor even money for a rental, and to call Doom 3 a rip off of such a lame pos of a movie is a major insult imo, especially when the Doom series/theme is much older than that lame excuse for a movie.

Well. You take the plane from america to Manchester, get a local train to Crewe(where i live), get on the no.20 bus to Stoke-on-Trent, and get off at the Britannina Stadium. Go to the main gates, open them, and you will be in hell. lol.

Jeepers creepers - what a waste of a potentially good film, but Dreamcatcher is by far worse. Worst film of all time is Naked lunch with peter weller? from robocop about a man talking to typewriter/beetles now that was a wierd film

The book was awesome, which does of course give a hint that the movie is gonna suck.

Well some people might like it, but I have seen a lot of bad films and this is right near the top, and the ending is just plain funny its so badly done. Right up their with 'the sphere' for cr@p endings.
